Go for an early lunch; wait until someone leaves if it's crowded; try everything you can eat. Chat with people both serving and around you. Fabulous!

The Mercat de la Boqueria at lunchtime can be overwhelming so it was nice to find this tapas spot near one of the entrances. They do wonderful things with beans and of course offer some of the classic seafood dishes of Barcelona. When we visited our server recommended the baby squid with beans in a black ink sauce. I tried... More

If you don't understand the title, it's OK. Just go there for breakfast, repeat the phrase, and prepare for delight. A xixu is a cream filled pastry with cinnamon and sugar... Light, flaky, and heavenly. Cafe con leche is simply coffee and milk, but not that gas station variety. Smooth, creamy, and perfect. Enjoy the sites and sounds while taking... More

Visited this shop last year but we did not have stomach space to try too many dishes. Food as wholesome, made fresh and some are old recipes. Our first trip in 2016 we had: cod in red oil - fish was a bit tough. maybe it was a bad cut but overall taste was balance. baby squid with bean and... More

This tapas bar, in the Boqueria market, will be full of a mix of locals and tourists. It's good for a quick breakfast - you can grab a pastry and a cup of coffee. For lunch, grab a seat and the friendly owner will be over in no time. There is no printed menu, as it changes daily - just... More

This is a small tapas bar near the entrance to the Mercat de la Boqueria. The Mercat swirls around you as you sit and enjoy your tapas. If you are in the market, hungry and you can find a space at this crowded spot, jump on it! The 'menu' is the set of things in and on the long case... More

Very nice tapas in a happy space from larger groups of people. Most tapas places are small and you stand up. Here one can sit, relax, and soak up the atmosphere.

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
