Charming little family-run tapas bar a short walk away from the crowded Gothic Quarter (we were advised by our guide not to eat there). In short the food was excellent (the artichoke salad and oxtail with mushrooms being particular highlights), the wine was lip-smackingly good (our hostess chose a bottle and then deemed it to be the wrong temperature so sought an alternatve out for us), and all very reasonably priced. Its small and likely crowded but don't let that put you off if you're after something authentic.
It doesn't need great trip adivsor reviews to thrive, but it deserves them.

Best Tapas we have had by far . It's not your standard fare . From the coffee infused smoked Salmon to the slow braised ox tail the tapas on Isa's menu are out there and absolutely delicious . Be adventurous and try the honey and curry infused hummus which was amazing ... initially the sweetness of the honey hits you followed by the chili/curry kick . The mushroom and truffle empanadas were also out of this world re flavour and worth a try. Isa ( owner / manager ) is friendly , speaks many languages and is happy to help with any food or drink recommendations. This isn't the cheapest Tapas Bar around but I firmly believe "you get what you pay for" and El Bitxo is worth every last cent . Will definitely return for another visit.

Found this place after meandering around Barcelona for the day. I really liked the ambience and the tapas was great. We had a very delicious cheese called ‘belut’ or something similar and hand made in Girona. Abs delicious. When you pay the bill you get a little jelly sweet which is chilli flavoured, which I thought was a quirky touch. It’s not cheap here but quality and good atmosphere.

This is a great and intimate (very small) tapas and wine b ar a stones throw from the Palau de Musica Catalana. The place is run by a delightful individual (Benedicte) who speaks fluent English and has an incredible wine palate (not only great bottles, but excellent and fresh wine by the glass. She also serves the best tapas we have has so far in Barcelona!

We were staying just across the street, so we timed our arrival to coincide with the show start time at the nearby Palau de la Musica. Good plan, because this place only has 5 tables and perhaps room for 20 guests. As noted by many previous reviews, the owner/hostess/server Benedikte is brilliant. She recommended wines and several dishes and everything was amazing. The salmon with coffee - so good. My wife loved the bean dip with curry and a bit of heat. When we asked for the next favourite dish, she said the fish with potatoes and I wasn’t sold, until I tasted the fish with potatoes. This was by far our best meal in Barcelona. Time your arrival and enjoy!

We ate here early (630) and were the only customers, we took a chance but wow we so enjoyed it. Within an hour it was filled with people eating and candlelight and it was such a nice ambience. Anyway the food was amazing - particularly the tuna dip (secret recipe!) and the 2 lovely ladies who worked there were helpful. Would thoroughly recommend this place for a lovely tapas dinner. Wine was great too, we were allowed tastes too to decide which one to have. The vermouth was amazing too, was like drinking a plum/prune!
Try this place! Felt very authentic even though the tapas had an international slant. Our favourite place in Barcelona

The best tapas we had in Barcelona. Their version of Patatas Bravas is perfectly steamed/sauteed baby potatoes with a tarragon sauce. So delish! Great snug atmosphere and many great dishes. We loved the goats cheese and the eggplant dip and the smoked mackerel. Also had a wonderful Spanish Chardonnay. Highly recommend this perfect tapas bar.

This tiny little restaurant off Las Ramblas in the gothic quarter offers some of the best tapas in the city! We enjoyed it so much, we went twice during our week in Barcelona. The coffee salmon and red hummus were two faves. Highly recommend for tapas and cocktails.

My wife and I loved this little tapas and wine bar. We particularly enjoyed the friendly, helpful owner/manager (?) who gave us good food and drink recommendations and made a point to chat with the customers. We particularly loved the coffee-marinated salmon. Thank you!

An enduring part of a Barcelona night should be starting or ending (or both) the evening with a stop into El Bitxo, an iconic restaurant near to the Palau de la Musica Catalana.
Major reasons to go start with the owner, Benedikte Andersen, who sets a style standard for comfort complemented by a magnificent offerings of wines, small plates to eat, and the right music mix to bring it all together.

El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
