We spent two and a half weeks traveling all over Spain eating great food as we went. We ate at five Michelin stared restaurants with varying stars plus lots of great tapas bars. As you can imagine the bar is set very high. Entering the restaurant was half the fun, it feels like you're entering a speak-easy. There was no... More

After a fabulous day tasting exclusive wines at Vega-Sicilia in Ribero Del Duero we went to the outstanding, el club Allard in Madrid. There were three set menus on offer and we chose the middle set menu (13 courses!!) at 98 Euros a head. If I go into detail here it will spoil the excitement and surprise at some of... More

We had dinner at El Club Allard on our last night in Spain. It was extraordinary. Everything was perfect. The food was wonderful from the range of foods we ate to the most theatrical presentation we have ever seen. We still can't figure out how they did some of the "special effects" that are a standard part of the meal.... More

We got the seduction menu for lunch and it was great. I was very full at the end. Great decor and atmosphere. They have great innovation for their dishes....it was all aesthetically pleasing. Especially the business cards...quite skeptical in the beginning (you will find out what I mean). The taste was good though I would stay I had better...one particular... More

Think Heston with a twist. Very good food, creative almost too good to eat. Have eaten at Fat Duck and was disappointed. Not disappointed here. Lovely building, fab staff, nice wine. Not over expensive for what it is. The desert 'Nemo' was a masterpiece. so much so the husband took a picture and sent it to the teenager. Go it... More

I was taken here as a surprise during a weekend break to Madrid. We had the 'seduction' menu at lunchtime. Every single course was like a piece of art. The service was great - not intrusive but explaining every dish (in English) so we knew what we were eating (as you couldn't always tell by looking at them!). Highlights were... More

Yes, innovation is the landmark here. Our best meal in Europe so far! I can't imagine visiting Madrid without a meal at El Club Allard. With wonderful combination of smell and texture, every dish is like a work of art and taste is definitely excellent. Kudo's to the Chef! We also had cava, which was brut nature and worked very... Final night in Madrid/Spain with friends after a week in Malaga. Outstanding dining experience and exclamation point to a great week in Spain. Nice surprises starting with the business card and ending with the quirky "Finding Nemo." Great to find a chef/restaurant that maintains a sense of humor and takes its food seriously without taking itself too seriously. This, after... More

I don't normally photograph food, but by the time the dessert in a fish-bowl came round, I just had to. All the dishes were beautifully presented, and tasted as good as they looked. I am vegetarian, and I was given appropriate dishes alongside my carnivore companions. Everything was wonderful. I will definitely go back next time I am in Madrid.... More

Unique signature dishes in the tasting menus are clever , and, more important, very tasty. Staff are friendly, and helpful in explaining all the subtle ingredients. Decor is muted, and understated. Wonderful restaurant, a must visit, if you want to spend 240+ euros on a meal for 2.

Staying in Arguelles

Neighbourhood Profile
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.
