For a moment I asked myself the question if I was in a different restaurant. Interior old fashioned but not the 'comfy' old fashioned. Service average, food average... not like the reviews I read here. Maybe a bad day?

Very popular restaurant with locals and visitors from other parts of Spain. The menu de dias is an excellent value. Choice of 4 or 5 entrees, more than 5 main courses, a couple of dessert options and a bottle of wine. All this for €11! Enjoyed the meal, but it was so much food we could not eat dinner that... Went with the family for an early lunch. They do not accept reservations if it is not for a group (>6), and being so popular, it would be frequent to have to wait at the door for a table. We went early and felt the advantage of the first hour (13h). Closed before that. Quite large room but service is... More

Friendly service, very popular with locals. Tasty food, 3 courses for 11 Euro. Wine, bread and water included. Great atmosphere.

We got there at opening time around 8:30PM. There was a line in the street, but everyone got in. The waiters were very efficient and service was excellent. Menu is extensive with many choices. A bottle of wine is included with the meal if you desire. Food was good quality and very tasty. By the time we left, there was... More

I went to this restaurant under the recommendation of the B&B host. It was late, close to 11pm. While the bars in the neighboring Calle Jesus district were understandably packed, I went in just because this restaurant was still busy. Although there is English subtitle on the menu, 99% of the customers were locals. My Spanish was limited, so was... More

Centrally located in an interesting area. The tapas are as good as they get. Very reasonable prices and excellent service. No reservations, so there may be a wait, but well worth it!

I went to this place with friends at the end of November. I guess you really needed local knowledge to know about this place which wasn't far from the hotel where I stayed. Fabulous value for money you get bread, 3 courses and half a bottle of drinkable wine all for €11.00. That's pretty remarkable value for money serving up... More

After many good visits. On this occasion with reservation included with hours of anticipation, on arrival we are informed that there is no availability. Which makes our dinner of friends in a good place totally disappear and ruin the moment.

We went for lunch with a friend who lives in Madrid and frequents this local favorite. It is so popular that there is almost always a wait. We were seated after 15 minutes. There menus of the day are either 10 or 11 euros. They include a starter, a main course and a dessert. We all had the garbanzo soup... More

Staying in Huertas

Neighbourhood Profile
Also known as Barrio de las Letras, Huertas was once home to prominent literary figures, Miguel de Cervantes and Lope de Vega among them. The neighbourhood is committed to celebrating its rich heritage: Calle Huertas itself is inlaid with quotes from celebrated authors, street names pay homage to them, and second-hand bookshops pervade. Huertas receives a fair amount of spillover from the center — side streets around Plaza Santa Ana take on a foreign party atmosphere at night, and you always see young backpackers navigating the streets — but as you descend into the neighbourhood, everything becomes a little more cramped and slightly less refined, and takes on more of an underground feel. Live music is at the heart of Huertas: by night, its subdued bars are ideal for meeting friends, sipping cocktails, and chatting quietly while enjoying jazz or singer-songwriter performances.
