I went on valentines day with a friend and as we were eating a cockroach was running over the table. We got no discount no anything just the table changed. Disgusting. The food wasnt that good either and the mojito acapulco really terrible thing.

Many years ago I lived in Mexico City. We now live in southern Spain and recently visited a friend who lives in Madrid. He said that there was a wonderful Mexican restaurant in the Chueca neighborhood. The four of us ate there last night. We shared a large nachos and guacamole starter. Fortunately I was the only one who ate... More

My last night in Madrid, wanted to eat something different. Picked this on my way back to base, what a mistake!!! Waiter switched the menus when he realised I was English. This was more expensive.. Asked for Huevos Rancheros, looking forward to something great. Oh what a terrible mistake, it took ages (I had drunk my wine by then -... More

The food was quite bland and our server might have been drunk - or just really odd. But It was funky and fun and the live music added a nice touch.

I was prepared to like this place because of the ambience, but it was largely disappointing. It had the blandest Mexican food I have ever tasted in a restaurant. Also, the service was slow and inattentive. My entree arrived at the table at room temperature. Disappointing.

This is a very good place. I am from Mexico and I can say they do serve autentic mexican food. True, the food is not gourmet and the menu also includes food for gringos (e.g.: nachos or something like burritos) but la sopa de tortilla was just right and the crepas de cajeta are also nicely done. The idea is... More

I was here last year and will be going again tonight. I really liked this place. It's very whacky and off the wall but there is a great atmosphere and the portions are decent. Always a good vibe here and it's worth a look. Good value too!

Four of us had dinner here this evening. It is a fun place. The décor is unusual to say the least. There are awesome murals, ceiling fans that don't seem to work and even a VW bug mounted in the wall. The service was friendly but not great and I have eaten a lot of Mexican food, but this was... Definitely a mixed experience. Started with a phone call to the restaurant to see how long a wait there would be. Person on the phone said they were REALLY busy, might want to check out the restaurant next door. Arrived 15 minutes later to find only two other tables occupied.....we were seated right away, obviously. Ordered margaritas on the rocks... More

Authentic Mexican situated in Chueca. Amazing decor and atmosphere. 4 Corronas for €5 which for the area is a bargain. We blind ordered as the menu is solely in Spanish but it kinda added to the fun. We ordered nachos to start which were great, but i guess they're hard to mess up. We had a mains which was equally... More

Description
The second Barriga Llena in Madrid was opened in August 2008 on Gran Vía – the perfect location for this type of restaurant. Following in the same footsteps as the other restaurants in the group, Barriga Llena Gran Vía has a happy and colourful ambience with original decorations featuring Mexican culture. Curious fans hang from the ceiling, which have become one of the memorable characteristics of this restaurant. The other decorations are dedicated to memorabilia of Mexican music groups and artists. Barriga Llena offers authentic Mexican food as well as delicious salads, pastas, soups and meats cooked over the chargrill.

Staying in Chueca

Neighbourhood Profile
Chueca
Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses here are explicitly racy in their signage. From the rainbow flags to the signs above the entrances of its many funky bars, to the date spot restaurants, Chueca is a vibrant and colorful place. It's always interesting to explore the different corners of Chueca by day, and by night, the area becomes a major nightlife destination when the clubs open their doors.
