This is a very good restaurant in a quieter area in the center of town. It has really nice outdoor seating with some cooling air outside. If you sit outside you face some beautiful Madrid apartment buildings in an open triangular type of area. It's in a tourist area but it doesn't feel like a tourist spot. It's not expensive... More

We had a terrific meal, following recommendation of a local foodie friend. The chef's enthusiasm was contagious, as he came out and talked to us about each dish. Creative takes on local dishes.

We have to give Rick Steves the credit for suggesting this spectacular restaurant in Madrid, Spain. We explored his top 3 suggestions within walking distance of our hotel and chose D'Fabula after speaking with one of the chefs who gave us a tour of the restaurant and a run down of the menu. That personal touch sealed the deal for... More

We visited this restaurant after a recommendation and we are so pleased we did. The chef came to our table and made suggestions to help us with our choice from the menu, all our dishes were fresh, beautifully presented and cooked to perfection. We were the only customers in on a rainy Tuesday night whilst the rest of Madrid was... More

We dined here while in Madrid celebrating my birthday and it was amazing!! I was on the fence about coming due to some lukewarm reviews but I am so glad we decided to try it anyway! Yes we were served bread and seafood cocktail and charged for it (without notice) but it was good and we were hungry - not... More

An amazing experience. we thought it was another one for tourists. Nevertheless we were surprised by the food. I really recommend this one. without wine, the price for a starter ( shared ) and 2 main coueses was around 50 €. very fair. great flavours!

Enjoyed a spectacular dinner on our last evening in Madrid; recommended by our hotel, this bistro-like restaurant has an amazing chef; the menu changes regularly as it did on our visit. Our appetizers and mains were superbly prepared, visually stunning and extremely tasty. Our server was excellent and assisted us with our order and wonderful wine selection. A memorable evening... We went here on our last day in Madrid for a quick lunch. The fish and chips, served with whole small fishes and guacamole was perfect. Good and personal service. Situated in a quite plaza away from the buzzling streets.

This was another favorite place to eat in Madrid. We ate 3 meals here, 2 dinners and a lunch. The place is not a tourist spot, more locals come here. We ate all 3 meals outside, with a view of a small square with shops and apartments. The Mercado de San Miguel is a few minutes away. We were greeted... More

D'Fabula is a fantastic restaurant in Madrid. It's a bit off the beaten path, but worth the couple extra blocks for a wonderful dining experience!! It was the best restaurant we ate at in Madrid. The menu has great options available, including excellent appetizers and entrees. The service was great! Our server, Andrea, gave us great recommendations both for our... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
