Wow - this place is brilliant and well worth a visit. The best value tasting menu with matching wines that I think I have ever been to. Traditional Spanish cuisine with a modern twist and lots of wine to help it down. Nice relaxed atmosphere and great service made for a wonderful evening.

What a place! Me and my boyfriend went here a few nights ago after he read about it on a few websites. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. We were treated like VIPs from the moment we arrived - given the house cocktail and other nibbles whilst we looked at the menu. We chose the taster menu for 48... More

This is a an exceptional restaurant. Excellent attention to detail. My wife and I have dined out for decades at all price points in more countries than we would care to recall. The location in Madrid is a touch difficult but that was irrelevant to our entirely satisfactory experience.

We booked this restaurant for our last night in Madrid based on the reviews on trip advisor - and the experience was even better than the many great reviews. The service was the best we've experienced in Spain, they were able to suggest wines and we were given complimentary starters which were just amazing. The price is extremely reasonable for... More

Lieu is a very nice restaurant, the ambience is charming and romantic. Service is excellent and the menu is delicious. We tried a degustation menu which is very good, perhaps a bit too much food, but for the first time in this place it is worth trying! The location is five minutes away walking distance from the Opera house in... More

Everything, as always, was perfect. The food is amazing and he can work with my husband's no meat. His fish is perfect and the pork was the best in Spain. His reduction sauces are wonderful. Make sure you get the mushroom risotto although we always choose the tasting menu. It was a special night at a very special restaurant!

We are "foodies" who would rank the Lieu experience among our top five. The intimate but not crowded table set-up with jazz standards playing softly (including the mellowest of Coltrane) made for an ambience we crave (think the opposite of NYC loud). The service was impeccable. Our courses were timed perfectly, our wine glasses filled or switched out at just... More

We (2 couples who are foodies) had dinner at Lieu on our 2nd nite in Madrid. As per reviews in the trip advisors we're prepared to pay for the full chef's dinner, supposedly fine dining of Michelin std. We're a little disappointed with some of the dishes, like the cod fish was absolutely salty, as if cooked in a brine... More

My girlfriend and I visited the restaurant during a two day stay in Madrid, we only had one night in town so we had to choose wisely and we definitely did. The restaurant has a nice decor, from the moment you enter you are presented with a window view of the kitchen with the chefs working, which is a nice... More

I spent a few days in Madrid and a friend recommended me Liue. Overall Amazing! A joy from reservation through dessert. The restaurant was impeccably clean. The tasting menu was the best I have ever tried. Wonderful service and beautiful presentation of each plate. Excellent wine list. I will definitely be back for a romantic dinner with my boyfriend.

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
