Great wee traditional place for value tapas and drinks in the main Grand Via area. Loved sitting people watching and enjoyed the tapas. Service was great and so cheap too.

In places like this you will find the true people of Madrid eating in the lunch break: a warm noisy ambiance with excellent food and great hospitality.

The best part about don jamon is definitely it's location on Gran Via... The jamon platter and sandwiches were also good. Nice spot to relax after a day of sightseeing when you want a low key place to just sit in the main Street and enjoy the sights and sounds of Madrid.

Passed by and decided to have breakfast here. It was a good value and they have the fantastic Iberian ham. Good quick service.

I am reviewing the Don Jamón restaurant in Plaza de Remonta 3. TripAdvisor only came up with the Gran Via location but I have not dined there. Plaza de Remonta is a large square full of restaurants behind the Mercadona grocery store on Calle Bravo Murillo which is just across the street from the Valdeacederas metro stop. The burger (hamburguesa... More

I have NO criticism of the quality, service or all round value of this tapas bar. The hams are superb, the waiters are friendly, accommodating and humorous, MOST of the dishes are well priced. Just beware of the large plates of ham or pulpo for example where there are no small portions, just large plates. We had pulpo and ham... More

Staying in Centro

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
