It started with a complementary starter of cured beef & ended with a complementary aperitif. In between, the Liam Neeson lookalike gentleman served us course after course of amazing food. The steak with special sauce was so juicy and melt-in-your-mouth. The jamon croquettes were so soft & smooth. The mocillia with scrambled eggs was super tasty. And those anchovies on... More

When myself and a mate arrived at La Curruteka we were greeted with a big ole grin from the bartender who swiftly put us on the lovely table our heart desired. Being 2 simple Australians who only know english(and we still haven't mastered it) we hit a small language barrier with our waiter but a few chuckles and a lot... More

Smallish bar on a quiet side street just off Calle Atocha. Good food and large portions. We called here twice and were more than happy each occasion. Scrambled egg with black pudding recommended.

It is a small bar with nice atmosphere, good music, good service and excellent food and drinks. If you love tapas Curruteka is the right place for you. Everything is fresh and just cooked for you. Excellent dishes to share with your partner which makes it a perfect experience.

We had only 2 dishes and both were great. The croquette Jamon and the vegetables italiana which so many in the reviews took pictures of: slices of eggplant, zucchini, tomato , spinach and pesto all seasoned with olive oil and raw salt. Delicious. For desert we had sorbe lemon and espresso. All that + a pitcher of sangria came to... More

After reading the excellent reviews, I had to try La Curruteka. It was less than a block from my guesthouse---and also quite close to the Reina Sofia Museum. It's a very small space, and several times, when I'd walked past in the evening, looked quite crowded. So if I'm going for the first time, I prefer to go for lunch,... More

Randomly came across this bar / restaurant. The people, food and atmosphere was amazing. If you blink you'd miss it. Highly recommend and stopping for a glass of wine and tapas. Ridiculously good and reasonably priced. 5 glasses of great wine, tapas and a meal for 20€. Incredibly good and so glad we found this place.

Shared the curruteka salad, smoked meat, and meatballs with a friend. It was all very tasty and more than enough for two people. The service was very good and English friendly. Prices were excellent given the portion sizes.

Had loads of food for four people at a total of €50 including a pitcher of Sangria for €8. This off the beaten path jewel was not too crowded on a weekday night. Service was attentive and friendly, and the food was worth every cent! Even got complimentary tapas and shot at the end of the meal. Will be back... More

We ate here our first night in Madrid a couple of weeks ago. It is a nice clean place. We had the menu of the day which had a nice vegetable soup followed by a meat dish. A nice bottle of wine as well. Not high end by very good for a first night dinner. Server/bartender was very nice and... More

Staying in Lavapies

Neighbourhood Profile
Lavapies
Walking into this neighbourhood is like entering a different country ... except it's hard to tell which one it is. One side of Calle Lavapiés is lined with Indian restaurants, the other with kebab shops. Men in traditional African clothing convene outside their businesses for long chats, and people shout to each other across plazas and streets. Interspersed among ethnic specialty shops are independent theaters and dance studios, and two large arts and cultural centers — the beautiful Casa Encendida and the Tabacalera, a former tobacco factory — all of which attract young crowds. Along Calle Argumosa, the place to go for drinks, artists and art appreciators with piercings and dreadlocks convene in the street’s eclectic array of young, hip bars. Though some of the side streets can get a little seedy at night, Lavapiés is still the place to go for those seeking a unique blend of arts and culture in an international and funky neighbourhood.
