I loved this place. A friend who lives in Madrid took me here. The Art Moderna interior is beautifully restored. At about 10 p.m. The place erupted with activity. It was packed with people enjoying board games as they had drinks. A very social, cool place with great servers!

Came here to play games (not eat). Ordered tinto de verano (sangria) which was pretty good. Huge selection of games in both English and Spanish, but many of the games/pieces/cards were in pretty poor shape. Also, the place was filled to the brim (7pm on a Saturday) which made for an exciting, but loud, atmosphere.

A local friend took us to this cafe, and we loved it. Beautifully decorated and charming, with board games freely available for those who want to play. Coffee and milkshakes were good, as were the tapas of nuts and chocolates. Definitely recommended.

Cafe Manuela is a lovely little café, a little different to the norm. The atmosphere is great and the cocktails were lovely.

Tribunal is a tiresome area, lots of bad coffee and busy places offering sub-standard food and atmosphere. Cafe Manuela is a beautiful traditional bar, serving simple ice-cold beer on tap with friendly staff and a great authentic atmosphere. We spent a good few hours with locals and catching up with ex-pat friends. I spent days wandering Tribunal trying to find... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
