We had a table for 8 and ordered 5 appetizers, 8 main courses, a bottle of wine, 4 waters, 2 desserts, 3 cafes and the bill was only 160 Euros (20 Euro per head). The dishes are very nicely designed and the food is pretty good. They have proper meals with large quantities, so this is not a tapa kind... More

Just behind Gran Via, Atlantici Hotel, is this excellent restaurant. Starting with a plus for the Engish taste for eating before 2200, it opens variously between 2015 and 2030 during the week. The menu is wide and captures the Spanish flavours in many of its dishes. Service is smooth and unobtrusive.

A rare treat off Gran Via. The ample and delicious menu is served by friendly and on point wait staff. Food is excellent and well prices for portion size and quality. Highly recommend!

An interesting fusion restaurant, that unfortunately didn't quite deliver maybe the early evening reservation didn't help as the venue lacked ambiance . Food adequate but not as inspiring as the written menu , and not the best value for money

Very affordable, nice atmosphere, friendly staff. Very good value. Paid 40 euro for dinner for 2 persons, a bottle of (good) wine, water and dessert. Overall a nice impression. Portions were a bit on the small size though.

This was a great find. The busy Gran Via is only five minutes walk away but the little narrow street (Desengaño) is an oasis of calm. Public looks very upmarket with its fancy table cloths, dark wood, fine cutlery and glassware but it exudes comfort and the service provided by young waiters helps create a comfortable atmosphere. The fixed menu... More

We had lunch and took advantage of the fixed three course lunch menu. There were four choices of each and provided a good variety. Most important was that it was quite inexpensive and therefore was a good value. Service and atmosphere were both good.

Stumbled upon this restaurant close to Gran Via apartments (where we were staying). Prices odd as I think they show them net of tax, but excellent value. Two courses and bottle of wine and soft drinks for four easily for €80

A buddy who lives in Madrid introduced me to Public, and we had quite an enjoyable evening. To open, the dining room is quite attractive. A little research online shows that this is part of a group of restaurants and hotels across the country, and the design elements clearly reflect that you're in a corporate restaurant. Music is a good... More

Staying in Malasana

Neighbourhood Profile
Malasana
Hip bars and galleries, independent theaters and music venues, young people with tattoos and funky hair, narrow winding streets — this is Malasaña. Near the center, Plaza Dos de Mayo is a gathering of friends outside bars, dog owners, artists under craft tents, and creative types with notebooks and sketchpads on the plaza’s benches. It may not be as neat and tidy as many other parts of the city, but this only adds to the Malasaña edge. Shops and bars here range from hippie-crunchy to upscale trendy, and on weekends, the streets are bustling around the clock as the nightlife progresses from dinner to bar to disco to late-night food. On the west side of the neighbourhood is the subdistrict called Conde Duque, named after a large pink fort in its center that has been converted into a cultural center for exhibitions and performances. Prettier yet just as edgy, this intimate corner of Malasaña is home to a young international community.
