This bar was so much fun to go to. The owner was so friendly and personable and spike flawless English. We had amazing service and really enjoyed our time here. We enjoyed it so much we came back the next night, and the owner was so happy to see us. I would recommend this bar to anyone visiting Madrid. Ps.... More

Surprisingly we went a solid three times to this place, been first time in Madrid and not a clue about where to go to and been generally overwhelmed by the choice of tapas places we ended up at chiky. First time for drinks but after seeing the food served we decided to try for dinner and then for tapas. Yes... More

We chose this place because it seemed popular and we were hungry but it was in the tourist area and it was a bit expensive for the quality of food. Had the spaghetti with seafood. Sauce was delicious but the seafood was a little fishy.

I was in Madrid for a business trip and strolled around Madrid to look for somewhere to eat on a Friday evening - always quite busy. I came across Chiky's, which looked quite nice, appeared to have a resonable menu and the opportunity to sit outside and watch life go by. I speak reasonable Spanish, but the wit-staff clearly realized... More

Love this place as much for the experience as the food. Let me share some context, as some tourists might relate and thus make a more informed decision: Here on our first trip to Spain, we stayed first in relatively cloistered Barcelona's Gothic Quarter, which is built as much for people who speak other languages as it is for natives.... I love this bar/restaurant! They have really good beer and churros. The service is fantastic! The owner is super cool , speaks good English and Spanish, and is just a fun person to talk to, and the employees are really nice. If your visiting Spain, or if you live in Spain, and want to have a really chill place to... More

The owner speaks fluent English, is super friendly, and upgraded our drinks for free. The service was awesome, and they have the best churros we have had so far in Spain. I would highly recommend this place to tourists and locals alike!

The system of five choices to click on for a rating is fine, but flawed. The food I had here was good, but there were some issues that are probably as much my fault as the restaurant's. While the front door is on Calle Mayor, the outdoor section winds down a tiny side street/walkway, which I found charming, if a... More

Chiky is apparently one of the old fixtures of the city centre of Madrid. We found it by chance and had a wonderful evening, with great food, (paella) charming service and reasonable prices. Sitting on the terrace gives you a unique experience of madrid by night and, there, we finally found English speaking staff, not commonplace in Spain. After drinks... More

Neighbourhood Profile
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.
