Historic Pizzeria in the center of Naples that has made and continues to make history. The place and the service are in step with the times despite the huge turnouts, the only thing that has never changed is that you can not book but the service being fast enough and the very large pizzeria usually does not wait an eternity. The pizza dough is very good and light. Their fried and baked montanara is always exceptional and I highly recommend trying it. The 4 out of 5 is due to some detail that unfortunately being Neapolitan known: the Genoese on the mountain as an appetizer unfortunately lacked a lot of character and unfortunately for me it is a fairly serious mistake and the pope's pizza that we ordered was good but slightly flat, lacked a bit of boost in taste, the croquette also as an appetizer was slightly tasteless. All details that led me to give this Rating. That said, it is a pizzeria to try regardless because you can taste in any case the historicity of Naples at prices still affordable. See you soon.

If you are looking for an authentic Neapolitan pizzeria, with traditional dishes and quick service, then Starita A Materdei is the perfect place! Upon arrival, you can immediately breathe the warm and welcoming atmosphere typical of Naples. The menu is a tribute to the Neapolitan tradition, with a wide selection of classic pizzas such as Margherita and Marinara, as well as more creative proposals but always respectful of tradition. The ingredients are fresh and of high quality: from stringy mozzarella to sweet and tasty tomatoes, every bite tells the authenticity of the territory. The pizza is simply delicious, with that characteristic high, soft and slightly crispy edge that melts in your mouth. Another strength is the service, fast and efficient. Although the place was crowded (an obvious sign of its popularity), the pizzas arrived at the table in no time, warm and fragrant. The staff is courteous and attentive, always ready to meet every request with a smile. Ultimately, Starita A Materdei is a stop for those who love true Neapolitan pizza and want an authentic taste experience accompanied by fast and friendly service. Highly recommended for an evening with friends or for those who want a great meal without endless waits. I can't wait to go back!

This pizzeria was recommended to me by my cousin who reckons it's better than my favourite pizzeria, the Pizzeria al 22 in via Pignasecca. I have to admit that the pizza was truly excellent and marginally better than the one I had at the '22' a couple of days before. I suspect that the decline in quality there may be due to the fact that it has been discovered by tourists - there was a queue outside! This pizzeria is well tucked away, out of the reach of tourists, in via Materdei a couple of hundred metres north of the Archaeological museum. Service was lightning fast - the pizza margherita was on the table within 5 minutes and it was bloody good - one of the best I've ever had: it could not be faulted, no matter how hard I tried!

Good pizza without obvious flaws. Pretty good potato croquettes. The crust is crisp and quite dry. Too bad that the mozzarella chunks inside were partly still solid. Poor choice of beers and the odd request to keep dirty cutlery between courses. If you are looking for a typical pizzeria you must taste Starita's at Materdei. On weekends, don't be surprised to have to wait even an hour for a table, but on the other hand, the table service is very quick. The environment is created in an underground maze of small rooms with tables very close to each other, typical of many Neapolitan pizzerias in the historic center. They are aware of their fame, and boast it in the typical Neapolitan way based on comparisons with hypothetical imitators from whom they would distinguish themselves by calling themselves "artists". To some it sounds very provincial and narrow. But Naples is like that. Ignore it: it is too common among Neapolitans to be criticized.

I've been returning to Naples for years, the last time in July this year. For me Starita was a family-run ritual, excellent ingredients, excellent pizza preparation, low prices, service from smiling and friendly guys. When I returned this July I found an environment that is no longer the same, it has transformed into one of the many medium-level pizzerias: fluctuating pizza, the service guys gone, except for a couple, menus changed and prices skyrocketing, what a shame.

Ordered two pizzas: a Margherita, discreet (we expected more 'given the reviews) while the marinara with cherry tomatoes was full of low quality oil'. We didn't like it. Coffee table (place 14) adjacent to a gap in the wall that served as a passage of dishes, cutlery, various objects with continuous and boring coming and going of numerous waiters. Cannot park in the area. High prices, overall not satisfactory

We ordered the fried whips with ragĂą sauce, Genoese and fried: special!!!!! Afterwards we delighted in the Starita marinara and the square filled with ricotta and broccoli. The kindness and courtesy of the staff is an added value... relying on Daniele's professionalism is a guarantee. Silvana is Armando

We returned 3 times in 5 days of vacation, the last time to get take-away pizzas to take to Veneto to the family who was asking for "a good pizza"! My partner has celiac disease, they have gluten-free dough which is cooked in a separate oven with dedicated and non-contaminated ingredients; the dining room staff was very kind and answered all the questions we ask every time to make sure we can eat gluten-free safely. Both pizzas are very good, but an honorable mention goes to the gluten-free one 🤩 for those coming from the north, a little info: telephone reservations are not required, you book on site and wait outside the restaurant, they are super organized and fast Until next time!

I return after a year to what was one of my favorite pizzerias in Naples. Pizza not rolled out well, full of oil, chewy dough, inedible ledge (raw?). Prices have gone up quite a bit and the size of the pizzas seems small to me. Nothing I remember. That it became a tourist pizzeria?

My experience at this pizzeria was overall very positive. The pizza dough was really digestible, while maintaining the Neapolitan tradition, and the fried foods were delivered quickly and absolutely delicious. The staff were courteous and never rude, helping to make the atmosphere pleasant. However, I noticed that the tomato sauce on the pizza had a few too many pieces of tomato and that the Genoese sauce on the omelette had an excessive quantity of onion pieces, which can be liked but can also be unpleasant to the palate.

For me, who is a lover of pizza and in particular Neapolitan pizza, this was a place to absolutely visit; we tried for lunch, immediately finding availability as the place was quite free. Ordered two daisies, a beer and water; the pizza looked nice, with well-distributed toppings, although a little watery on the surface (probably the natural release of the fior di latte, in addition to the light film of oil). Good flavor, both from the tomato and the dairy product, basil which completes the taste in a non-invasive way; light and digestible dough, perfect cooking without burns. In short, a good product, perhaps not end of the world, but absolutely in line with the Neapolitan tradition (for me who don't like life-saving pizzas, better known as contemporary). Also mentionable for the professional service and the very honest price, things that should not always be taken for granted

You have to come here! The best pizza EVER! Our accommodation was nearby so it was more than convenient, but I recommend you to check it out wherever you are located. The line was big, but so well organized - you go inside, leave your name and wait outside (not long at all, especially for two people). We went two times (lunch and dinner) during our stay in Napoli and both times were absolutely amazing. You HAVE to try the dessert with pistachios, even if you feel like you're gonna die after the pizza, you just have to! One of the best pistachio creams I had! Also, the beer selection is really nice, we liked Cuore di Napoli very much. The staff was friendly and nice, can't wait to come back!

I had lunch once and dinner twice at Starita and I must say how delicious the first evening I had a classic Neapolitan calzone, I asked not to add pepper and basil and it actually arrived like that. For lunch I had a mix of Neapolitan frying and I must say perfect without oil and then the perfect margherita with that tomato with just the right amount of acidity that only true Neapolitan pizza has. I discovered that they have a pizzeria in Florence, I will definitely stop there

I had been missing from Starita for about three years. For me it has always been the best pizza in Naples. Waiting for the turn was pleasant, the desire increased and "little angels" were often offered to waiting customers. So yesterday we decided to go with our friends, taking advantage of the match that keeps many at home. Unfortunately one of my friends was ten minutes late and here's the first surprise: "you can't enter if you're not full". When we sat down we ordered the angels as an appetizer at the same time and then the pizzas. As we began to munch on the little angels, the pizzas arrived. Obviously there was no place at the table because we were eating something else. The waiters apologized but took away the plates and served the pizzas anyway..... meh. Here was the biggest disappointment. We looked at each other and shaking our heads we said: "but this isn't Starita's pizza". Not leavened at all, rubbery and indigestible. After less than an hour we were already off the "assembly line" swollen and disappointed. The tourists fill the place anyway and certainly don't have a refined palate for pizza. For us Neapolitans the end of a myth.

Incredible friendly and helpful staff. Delicious gluten-free pizza. Highly recommended!!! The only small flaw as a celiac, I'll just say that €4 for gluten free dough seems a bit excessive to me but I'm happy given that the pizza is excellent.
