This was an experience from 6 years ago. We were with another couple roaming around Rome on our last night when we stumbled across La Barca. We were hesitant to go in but after the owner assured us this would be the best experience ever we decided to try it. He didn't show us a menu, instead he played the... More

Please dont go there! Terrible! Bad service, worst service I ever experienced! The food is not worth the price! Hade better pasta from A frozen ready dinner than here! They changed the wine to a more expensive one! Took 10% tip on the bill. I am not cheap, I give a lot of tip and pay a lot for good... More

We were staying in the Borgo Pio area and didn't have any plans for dinner but decided to wander the back streets and see what restaurants we could find. We came across La Barca and it looked busy so we decided to go in and take a look. We were greeted by a very friendly (over the top!) waiter and... More

Like most other reiewers we were recommended La Barca by the concierge at the hotel. From the outside it looked like the kind of place you wouldn't step foot in. My husband and my 2 kids (under 10s) never saw a menu. We were asked what we liked and didnt like - and our glasses were never empty. The food... More

This restaurant gets recommended by local hotels. They are tucked behind a gas station and I would think they don’t get many other customers besides tourists funneled in by hotels who are probably getting a commission. They ask you which hotel you came from. (In Rome if your hotel recommends a restaurant, tour guide, etc, they are likely more interested... More

This restaurant is the perfect example of the trap tourists can fall into. A nice waiter invited us to come inside while we were reading the menu, he insisted on bringing many different dishes, telling us we'ld only pay for what we eat. The food was good but at the end he brought a bill of €120 for 3 persons,... More

In summer 2008 our family of 4 stumbled on La Barca by accident, as the place we had planned on could not accomodate us & recommended La Barca close by. We arrived early at 5 pm & were the only clients for about an hour which worried us, but the hospitalble & charming waiter Angelo made us feel welcome right... More

We experienced La Barca with our 3 young daughters (10, 8, 6), recommended by our hotel. Loved every minute of it! Service was awesome, food was delicious. Didn't look at a menu, although it was offered, 'trusted' our waiter. Wasn't offended by the bill. Not a 'glamourous' restaurant but had an exceptional night and have recommended it to friends travelling... More

I was interested to read the reviews having experienced La Barca. We were recommended the restaurant by our B&B, and like others our restaurant host didn't give us menus but simply gave recommendations. I would say, that if you are worried about budget, then do insist on a menu - however, if you let the host bring recommended food to... More

We ate at La Barca on the recommendation of the owner of our B & B and were not disappointed. We ordered a fixed price, five-course meal, not realizing that the antipasto was a meal in itself. The seafood antipasto included tender, flavorful mussels and clams, lightly fried calamari, shrimp, and octopus salad. The secondi piatti was a grilled sea... More

Staying in Vatican / Borgo

Neighbourhood Profile
Vatican / Borgo
Frocked priests, colorful Swiss Guards, insistent souvenir shop owners, flag-waving tour guides, and pilgrims from around the world. This is the Vatican and Borgo, Rome's most recognized neighbourhood which acts as Vatican City's front yard. Aside from the souvenir boutiques and a few food spots, the only business conducted here is papal. In the daytime, the tiny medieval sector bustles with holy activity, as visitors vie for elbow room, or stand in line for a visit. Once the sun sets, the neighbourhood is transformed into a quiet and picturesque hamlet.
