I thought I should have Italian food, so started with Bresaola e Rughetta (generous) and the Saltimbocca alla Romana. Slightly disappointed with this, but still good and at 10 Euro, good value. With a vanilla ice cream, water and house red wine, the bill was a modest 31.50 Euro.

Just down a side road close to the Lateran complex, you could mistake this for one of Rome's mock-Irish pubs. But it's a welcome cave of cool dark wood with fast service and a solid Romana menu. The tuna and bean salad was particularly good.

We visited rome a while ago now and stayed round the corner from the merulana cafe, the food was great, we both had pasta with sauce, the staff were friendly and the service quick and efficient, we stayed after our meal for a few drinks, I would eat at the cafe again the next time we visit rome.

The service was nice and helpful, the interior nice and comfy. We ate some appetizers and pastas, that were very simple and good, but nothing amazing. The cost for two people with a soft drink, beer, appetizers, pastas and coffees - total 35 €.

Nice bar that seems to cater to English and foreign tourist. Nice ambience with wood and stone plus bar. Dining area and limited menu of local and foreign offerings...chicken wing/burgers. Very friendly staff and about 6 beers on tap including Guinness. Order a beer and it comes with homemade chips ( often stale ) or the much better peanuts. Beers... More

Sometimes because of the way the day unfolds, waiting until 8:00 or later to eat does not work, but it is a challenge to find places that serve dinner earlier. The Merulana Cafe is a spot where you can show up at 7:00 (or even earlier) and not be treated as if you are committing a crime! The staff was... More
