We were staying close by on a recent trip to Rome and ate in this restaurant twice. The food was very good and staff were cordial and efficient.

My boyfriend and I decided to try Da Danilo because it was recommended to us. Before going to the restaurant we read some reviews from tourists about the rude service and not being let in without a reservation, so we were a bit nervous about going. We decided to dress up and test our luck. When we got to the... More

We came here because we saw that it is highly appreciated and that the carbonara is very good. We wanted to order some antipasti (a mix ) the most expensive one and we were told that we have to order minimum 2 (no explanation, just that we have to get 2). We said that we only want the carbonara and... More

We wanted to try this restaurant for lunch after looking at its good review and when we arrived there at around 130pm, the waitress asked whether we had a reservation (while there were no guests in the restaurant) and we said no and she turned around to check with her boss and the guy shook his head. The waitress then... More

The food is amazing and well worth checking your expectations at the door - before you get there. Call in advance for a reservation from 8ish onward and dress like you mean to have a dinner out, not like you stumbled upon it on your way somewhere very casual and you'll be fine. That's just how it's done and when... More

A very special friend took me out for traditional Roman food. It is best to book because it's not a big place. You can tell it's good because it was busy. So on entering we were welcomed and shown to our table the atmosphere was lively but not over bearing. Menu had a good choice variety of food. My friend... More

It is a small restaurant with a comfortable setting It is the 'neighbourhood' trattoria, that is usually consistent in its food and service. We ordered the cacio and pepe tonnarelli (with cheese and pepper) and their specialty, the famed 'carbonara', one of the best in town, as many Romans say. All simple pasta dishes, and all well executed. The pastas... More

Horribly nasty service from staff and owners. Our bill came up to 41 euros. We gave the staff a 50 bill. He asked if we had a dollar, which unfortunately we didn't. He returned with change in 10 and 20 cents, and had the nerve to smirk. As for the food, we had the cacio e pepe and carbonara. Nothing... More

The carbonara is nice and tasty, no doubts, but it was just 4 collections of fork...I am not even a big guy but I would have expected a bit more had it paid 12€ just that plate. Same stuff for the wine, I asked for a white at calice and I got even less than 20cl I guess. The gasperino... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
