After our night time Vatican museum visit, we took a bus back to Hotel Morgana. Fortunately, Giovanni restaurant was still open. We needed a good dinner after doing a virtual whole day Catholic pilgrimage. We were the only customers at that time. The waiters were already preparing for the next day’s breakfast offering. We ordered the basic Italian spaghetti and... More

We chose this restaurant as it looked very busy and homely. I had the spinach and egg pasta with cream and mushrooms which was tasted ok and filling as the portion was a good size. My partner has the schnitzel and potatoes which was very tasty. There was a guitarist who came in at the beginning of the meal to... More

Probably the most traditional restaurant we ate in in Rome. The entertainment is great and the food excellent. You will not be disappointed with this restaurant. Do not walk past! We visited here on our last evening in Rome and enjoyed it so much we went back for lunch the following day, before leaving for the airport.

As we were a group of 9 staying in the hotel Ariston just about 200 yds away this was great, the owner was great making up tables for 9 which is awkward in a small restaurant, food was great, lovely red wine he advised and while he sang to us as well.

We wandered past and decided to visit for a late dinner. Great service and exceptional food. We had the spaghetti cacio e peppe, the grilled fish, mixed vegetable soup and the tiramisu for dessert. All were exceptional but my two favourites were the grilled fish and the tiramisu!! We were also entertained by the owner who sang some funny tunes!!... More

Immediately opposite our Hotel Morgana. Great food and atmosphere, always full and mostly locals, which speaks for itself! Owner waited on tables and gave interludes of his musical skills by playing on his guitar & singing to the patrons, which everyone loved. A real Roman experience in dining, not to be missed.

We found this Ristorante a few doors away from the Hotel Kennedy where we stayed over the past few weeks. A great place to eat, with great food, great value and great entertainment with the owner picking up his guitar and singing to his patrons. We ate there most nights we stayed and loved it. The other waiter too was... More

We arrived after a trip from the UK pretty tired but hungry! We asked the hotel for a local recommendation for a snack. " The restaurant across the road is fine" so we had a meal. Food was good and very very reasonable. The crowning glory is that (assuming the owner?) Played a mean guitar! We were treated to "what's... More

Staying in Esquilino

Neighbourhood Profile
Old school vibe from the very beginning is the only way to describe the Esquilino neighbourhood. The Esquilino takes pride in being one of the oldest areas in Rome for its key location on one of the city’s famous seven hills. From an ancient neighbourhood to its modern incarnation as a multicultural hub, Esquilino always has something going on—polyglot vendors debate street artists while kids play pick-up basketball games. Look around you: this area isn’t like the historic centre. Liberty architecture, large piazzas, and long boulevards mix with archaic arches, secret side alleys, and beautiful churches like Santa Maria Maggiore.
