The restaurant was full with capacity to 100 persons but only a single woman toilet to serve those. Pizzeria was closed....nobody told us explictly why. Sit outside was not possible as well. Finally, service was slow as we were sit on a corner. An experience not to repeat.

Transformed from an old papal prison to a restaurant, this was a fun place to eat. Glad to have had our tour director take us there, else we may not have found it. The place is off the beaten track and not large, but it is authentic and one of the dining areas has an entrance to a tunnel to... More

The barman at our hotel recommended this restaurant to us - and we were so glad he did! Tucked away - we would have never found it by ourselves. We hadn't made a reservation but we're lucky to get a table. The restaurant was packed - mostly with Italian customers which was a great indicator that the meal was going... More

Such a delicious meal- wine and pasta were absolutely delicious but the service was not excellent. We waited a long time between ordering and getting the meal. Also a long time between clearing the plates, getting the dessert menu and ordering. Dessert was pre made and average but the pasta was to die for.

Our lovely waiter struggled away to translate as its not your usual tourist restaurant but if you like great food don't let that put you off. Shared cheese and meat plate to start, followed by Oso bucco, baked aubergine and home made deserts - great local wine too. We arrived at 8:30 on a Monday but it gets really busy... More

The restaurant is near trastevere and on Sunday at lunch time it is very easy to find parking. Inside is typical roman rustic style but well organised and clean. The service is friendly and available to assist with any request. Gluten-free pasta was available upon request. We booked with a smartbox voucher for lunch but this cannot be booked on... More

My husband and I happened on this place during our trip to Rome and figured to give it a try. We were seated at a small table near the kitchen in the main hallway. While we were looking at the menu the server told us that they were closing soon and had to order. Mind you no hours posted, didn't... More

You'll find several offal dishes in the anti pasti, some may like. Staff were attentive. An ok experience.

The atmosphere was pleasant and quiet, it was slightly off season in the area. We really enjoyed the food, we had pasta dishes. They were beautifully presented, and deceptively filling. I had house red, very pleasant wine. It was a fare price for a relaxed enjoyable evening of fine food and polite and attentive service.

Nice treatment and good food. Nothing more. Créme Catalana uneven warm. Cosy place in a good area in Rome.

"La Gattabuia" is located in old Trastevere, in a splendid tavern 1400 (o 400?) year old. The three rooms match a fine old-fashioned furnishing with terracotta brick walls, arches and vaults.

Among the typical restaurants of the area, "La Gattabuia" is one of the most famous. It is easy to reach, in between the alleys and piazzas. The restaurant was born from the walls of an ancient prison of the Papalin era.

We are glad to welcome you in a pleasant environment filled with natural pigments. Our service has nothing to envy to luxurious restaurants.

The tables are disposed so to have a certain distance from each other. We have an eterogeneous menu, easy to adapt to everybody. A night at "La Gattabuia" will definitely leave you impressed: you will soon be asking for more!

You will find several different dishes, ranging from tasty appetizers, fried and grilled vegetables, typical roman dishes (Carbonara, Gricia, Amatriciana, Cheese and Pepper) among which you will find our "Chef Offers", like Gnocchi with Colonnata Lard and Courgettes pate, Strozzapreti with Boletus and Truffles or Rigatoni with Tail Tomato Sauce.

Delight yourself with our grilled meat (from Argentina and Denmark), our roasts, fillets and steaks. Try our roman tripe, stewed beef tail, Lamb Offal. Our vast selection of Pizzas, baked in our wood stove, will make your mouth water.

Our cellar is filled with an accurate assortment of red wines ordered by region. We have at our disposal more than 80 different wines from Lazio

Staying in Trastevere

Neighbourhood Profile
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
