This restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who knows Rome. We arrived to join a reasonably long lunchtime queue of locals and tourists. If people are willing to wait, the food is likely to be exceptional and we were not disappointed. The fabric of the restaurant is pretty rustic, but the quality of cooking is fantastic, and reasonably priced. Only traditional Roman dishes are served, our starters of courgette flowers and artichokes were delicious, but the highlights were the pasta dishes. Never again will cream go in a carbonara in our house - simple and effective, letting quality ingredients talk for themselves in the way that comes naturally to Italians. If only UK Italian restaurants would let the cooks do what they do best and not try to impose our expectations!

This restaurant serves excellent Roman cuisine in a very busy and rather touristy atmosphere. They don’t take reservations so you need to get in line for dinner at 6:30 PM for when they open at 7 o’clock otherwise you’ll have a long wait. Service is a bit rushed as they are apparently trying to turn over tables which doesn’t happen at most other Italian restaurants. The food is very good and we had some of the best gelato we’ve had on our trip. I’d say it’s worth the experience at least once but there are many other restaurants in Rome that are less touristy and serve excellent Roman cuisine also at reasonable prices.

We were recommended this restaurant and were not disappointed. We went for lunch and yes had to wait a short while until a table became available but that's just the sign of a good restaurant isn't it? Full of locals queuing up! Our meals were simple but stunning pasta dishes for a reasonable price,I was full up for hours and still dreaming of my carbonara dish. Go find this place!

Went here for my 40th birthday based on a recommendation that it did some of the best food in Rome. The drinks on offer are homemade wine or water. The food arrived and my friend and I just looked at each other. For the price of €13 my friend received 3 medium sized meatballs in a watery tomato sauce. I received a plate of cold pasta carbonara with a gritty cream sauce. What was more astonishing was we were charged €6 for a plate of plain spaghetti to go with the meatballs which arrived 10 minutes after the meatballs did. There was a queue of people waiting to eat at the restaurant - we were the first dinner sitting - and it was made plain you were to eat, pay and get out. Don’t listen to the hype there are much nicer places to eat out there in Rome!

We turned up earlyish for lunch, on a sunny winters' day, and there was space, which soon gave way to a (very well managed, not neglected), line waiting for tables, so taking a chance is definitely worth it. On a quiet side street, small, tables outside and in. Nice people. Good efficient service. Delicious straight-forward hearty dishes (the tripe is wonderful). Uncomplicated but skilled and honest cooking at reasonable prices. If luxury is getting exactly what you need when it's needed, this was that. If I lived in the neighbourhood I'd eat there all the time. Liked it very much.

We came here almost right after Italy relaxed travels between regions. We heard this place always have a long wait so we called in to make a reservation for the first seating which i think is the only reservation they take, 7:30 pm. True enough, after the first batch of guests (even just after lock down) there was a long wait for a table to open up. I do agree that it could be touristy but the that did not matter, food was delicious and well priced. Caccio e Pepe was excellent, probably one of the best. Highly recommend burrata, ricotta or fiore di zucca for antipasti. We also shared the secondi - costolette meat, it was enough for 2 and melts in your mouth. Everything looked delicious but your belly can only take so much. This place is one of those must try when in Rome. Ambiance truly felt like nonna’s kitchen paired with extremely nice and attentive staff.

Popped in here for a spot of lunch around 3pm which comprised of 2 pasta dishes, ½ litre of wine, small bottle of beer, bread and water. Total bill - €45! The food was very tasty but the drinks were just just too darn expensive. €6 for 33cl of beer, €2 for tap water in a glass bottle. Clearly feeding the tourist market. Sadly, we won’t be returning.

This is the usual place made to get money from as many turists as possible. That's the reason why they don't take bookings. If you are 2 or 4, that would probably do, as the tables are setup for either 2 or 8 people. However, if you are 3, the third one will have to sit outside of the table. And if you're on your own, they just won't seat you because they wouldn't sacrify a table for 2 for someone alone if they can get money from 2 other people, even though there is a queue and you have been waiting for half an hour. When I see all those amazing small restaurants where people are super nice all around Rome, I really can't get why you would go queue there...

We had a foreign exchange student in our house for a year, she was born and raised in Rome. Her dad was kind enough to show us around for an entire day. He left us in the evening and recommended we go to this place, Da Enzo. This is supposed to typify Roman cuisine. Well, I've had lots better food many other places, and the prices here are pretty outlandish. Service was ok, not warm at all, but not rude. One plate of spaghetti with a few squished up tomatoes... 12,50 €. Huh? Not very much spaghetti at that! The Bucatini all'Amatriciana was the best dish here, decent amount of meat in there, still, overall, a very small amount of food for 12 €. You would do better to not come here, high prices for OK food. 5 of us ate here for 87,50 €, that's 17,50 € for each of us to have a plate of pasta.

We've been to da Enzo multiple times, even back when you could make in-person reservations and the queue was at most half an hour long. We were completely blown away at first. Now, though, even though we got there 45 minutes early and had a table as soon as it opened, we couldn't help but be a tiny bit disappointed. We were expecting things to feel rushed, but it really is difficult to enjoy a meal when there are 50 people waiting to pounce on the table you're dining at. The fresh bread and buffala + cherry tomato appetizers were excellent, as usual! It really set the tone for what we hoped would be a great lunch. Unfortunately, the cacio e pepe and tagliatelle al ragu that we ordered were extremely basic. I admit, it's hard to make them fantastic, but especially as I am a vegetarian I found myself disappointed and longing for something more, especially judging by the prices. Their dessert is good, but not fantastic either. What da Enzo lacks in service, atmosphere and dining experience it must make up through quality, otherwise there is nothing left of the restaurant. It's difficult not to feel a little bit misled when you expect amazing quality and get a main course that is barely better than the restaurant next door.

After reading reviews we were looking forward to eating here. What a disappointment, the food was incredibly salty, the pork cheek was purely fat with not a bit of meat in sight! The sea food pasta tasted like sea water and nothing else. Very over priced for what it is would not return or recommend.

Let’s start with an introduction: according to many roman friends it used to be good! Enzo became super popular since touristic guides started writing about his trattoria. My experience, as Roman currently living abroad, was poor. Pasta “alla Gricia” was overcooked and extremely salty. The board menu was full of dishes that nothing have to do with Roman tradition and you’d never find in a proper Roman trattoria. These dishes such as Burrata or Parmigiana were sold as “specials” ... the reality is that they were simply overpriced. In my opinion it is not worth to wait 25 minutes to be seated here. Price is high for what you get. Just leave this place to Americans ;)

A pretty bland experience unfortunately. We queued from about 1830 and were quite a way back but made it in on the first sitting which was good. Service was very quick (as you can imagine) as the tables need to be turned around pretty rapidly. We ordered the Bolognese gnocchi and carbonara. The gnocchi was beautiful but the sauce was a little bit tasteless but nice nethertheless. The carbonara, however, which is really the main reason we went in there (because of other reviews people have written) was pretty poor. Was like having a month's worth of salt in a single dish. Was so salty in fact that we couldn't finish even half of it.. pretty disappointing. Overall, in my honest opinion, it isn't worth the wait in the huge queue outside and you'll get a more authentic Italian experience in other restaurants in Rome.

We read the reviews and spoke with people and this was a place we had to go. As they don’t take reservations we showed up at 6pm to wait in line before they open and were the 3rd couple in line. By 6:20pm the line was halfway done the street by 6:45 it went all the way down. If you want to go show up 45 minutes to an hour early. We were seated outside and i orders the Carbonara and my with had the tomato pasta, we also ordered the meatballs. The pasta and meatballs arrived separately and the food was bland and not great, really lot worth us waiting inline for an hour… there pasta doesn’t come close to Osteria da Fortunata - Pellegrino we also thought the local restaurant Fiore Di Zucca had way better pasta and it’s super easy to get a reservation there. Our recommendations if you see the line is to keep walking as you can get this type of meal anywhere.

We had to wait one hour to be sitted. The waiters were too busy that they kept forgetting to come back to us, for a table that was not balanced or for broken glass and poured wine on the ground (broken by the waiter). The food was fine although my Roman friend could not eat her meat balls because they were too salty. The prices were way higher than the prices in the online menu, which was a disappointing surprise. Overall, not a pleasant experience.

Trastevere
Trastevere ("beyond the Tiber") is like a faded postcard, a little worn around the edges but still charming. With its wide-open piazzas, meandering streets, weathered Renaissance buildings, and overgrown personality, it's become an irresistible mecca for visitors. Trastevere is an enclave of entertainment - a rotating set of street performers entertains almost every night, and unforgettable eateries and bars pepper its piazzas and side streets. For a trip to the past, visit the southern and western flanks of Trastevere for pockets of yesteryear, less traversed areas with a residual 1960s and 70s Roman vibe.
