With all the Restaurants in rome around the tourist aeras having over priced and halfway decent food, this Restaurant was a nice break. The food is not over priced and tastes pretty good! The service was as I expected and I have no complaints. They had live music which was a nice touch to our dinner in Rome. For anyone... More

Giggetto sl Portico d'Ottavia is a restaurant where you should not book to early in the evening. Lots of Italians come here for dinner and they arrive late. So don't start before 20;00/20;30, if you like the restaurant to be a bit crowded. We had excellent Roman dishes, very traditional. And we loved the Carcioffi alla Giudia! As we were... More

They put bread and water for pay without notifying. Fried artichoke is not tasty. Seafood was not cleaned. Not satisfied

We had been strongly recommended to eat here but ended up rather disappointed. We were pleased to be able to eat outside but our waiter never seemed to have any 'table manners'. Dishes were plonked down at the side of the table rather than given to the person who had ordered it and no cooler was provided for our rose... More

It's location is fantastic near the Octavian ruins in the former Jewish Ghetto. The restaurant is large and lacks personality. Worst was though that most of the waiters were incredibly rude and did push by the guests, letting us feel as if we intrude. Food was average at best, eg their specialty artichokes dripping in oil and chewy contrasting the... More

Ate spaghetti at this place. The spaghetti was undercooked, not al dente, was so hard that it could stand by it's own. The sauce with it had a strong and bitter taste, as if it was cooked just for as shot time as the spaghetti. This is the worst place I've been dining at.

Our first night in Rome, we were heading towards city center but decided to ask our driver for a recommendation and he suggested Giggetto. Clams and mussels were great appetizers. They were very flavorful. Main dishes we ordered were lamb chops, spaghetti carbonara, spaghetti with seafood, a fish (too many bones), fettuccine bolognese. All were fantastic. My lamb chop was... This is one of THE places for the famous Carciofi alla Judia (artichokes) but it has an interesting and ever-so-slightly different menu. It is a very popular place for families to meet for Sunday lunch which meant that we had to wait for an hour before coming back for our table (no problem - just go and enjoy a drink... More

Terrible service and cold food and expensive. Will never go back. It was one of the most famous places in Rome. Now it's just for tourists to rip off.

Staying in Ghetto

Neighbourhood Profile
Ghetto
The mini-neigbourhood Ghetto holds tight to its reputation as a stand-alone area thanks to its nearly 300-year history as the home to Rome’s Jewish community. Times changed in the 20th century, but the tiny area still retains its mix of tradition, community, and history. Ancient and medieval architectural design frames apartments, bakeries, shops, and restaurants. Friends and families are the pulse of the neighbourhood, keeping company on the Via del Portico d’Ottavia. The Ghetto observes the traditional Jewish Shabbat: businesses close from Friday sundown to Saturday sundown.
