I had always heard that spaghetti carbonara was a classic Roman dish. But, I had actually had better versions of this dish in Sorrento on a previous trip to Italy. That was until I tried the carbonara at La Fraschetta di Mastro Giorgio in Testaccio. At La Fraschetta, I had an absolute perfect rendition of carbonara with bacon that was... More

I found that Rome can be a challenging place to have a quality dinner if you don't make advanced reservations. However, on the recommendation of a friend, I had great dinners walking in without a reservation at La Fraschetta di Mastro Giorgio two evenings during my week in Rome. The lasagna, house wine, bruschetta, and tiramisu were highlights, and my... More

In the Testaccio you can find this restaurant which is awesome. I just recommend you to let them suggest the food. Only give them what you like and don't like and you'll start a fantastic and delicious dinner. Home wine is very good so it's necessary to order an special bottle. Desserts like panacotta are incredible as well very different... More

I do not know where to begin. This is one of the worse restaurants we've ever dined at, and for sure atrocious customer service experience!!!! Our stay in Italy was very short, we came to visit Linea Pelle Rho Fiera in Milan for business, we then decided to go to Rome for a couple of days to enjoy the attractions... More

We are extremely sorry for what happened, it is an absolutely unique event. We would like to clarify that our restaurant makes no racial discrimination and indeed is popular with tourists for the friendliness and conviviality. What happened is a set of unfortunate coincidences. The restaurant manager, who normally presides activity, was sick that week along with two attendants. The... More

We went here for lunch as the restaurant next door we wanted was full. The pumpkin ravioli was good, the service was fine, but the second courses were not even a little bit worth the money. My husband got the lamb chops...which were the worst cut of meat I have ever seen in a restaurant and so over cooked he... More

We were welcomed with a smile even though we entered through the wrong door. Interesting menu - we live in Umbria so it's always nice to find items not sold in every other restaurant. Fair wine selection at good prices. No pressure to order more than we wanted, in fact we were very tempted to order dessert, but before we... More

We have eaten at this restaurant several times and will return. La Fraschetta has a wide range of very good dishes, and each that we have enjoyed has been delicious. Their appetizers are excellent and their Jerusalem artichokes are among the best we have tasted. Prices are very reasonable. Most of the clientele are local, which says much about how... More

Cuisine and service ok. Waitress available to our requests. The food is very tasty. We got the starter with cheese and confitures and then meet as main course. Good experience. Don't miss it.

The "Fraschetta di Mastro Giorgio", located in the historic Testaccio neighborhood, aims at combining quality and honest prices within plain but well-kept premises. The ingredients used in the kitchen and at the grocery counter, which are always fresh and in season, are selected with care and expertise and are the basis in providing authentic and wholesome dishes. All the products we use are first quality, starting from the organic extra virgin olive oil VIOLA, passing to our home-made pasta, the free-range meat selection, the handmade cold cuts and cheese, the pastry confection with CAVAZZA jams and, last but not least, the hand-crafted SAN BIAGIO beer, which is bottle-brewed. The products processing takes place in the fully equipped kitchen, using modern and functional tools in keeping with the HACCP regulations.

Staying in Testaccio

Neighbourhood Profile
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.
