I really wanted to like this place. It was recommended to me by an Italian friend, and after reading all the great reviews we had high hopes. I dined here with my boyfriend who is Swedish and doesn't speak the best English, so I did most of the speaking (made the reservation, asked questions about the food). After being seated... More

Where tradition is King! A family business, generous portions, real Roman taste ( NB. Possibly too rich for some) and happiness in the air.... same faces every Sunday!!! If one has to wait a bit.... it means that the food will be even better. Wines at exceptional prices.... not like in U.K. where you pay 4 times more than in... More

Having dinner here was so much fun, old school service, top quality food, best carbonara EVER, a trip down memory lane for all good things in life.

I come here if I want to have very good traditional Roman food (especially pasta like Matriciana, Carbonara...). Perfectly prepared in a very authentic and simple atmosphere. If you expect a posh style or an international atmosphere, don't go to Perilli. But be aware you may really miss an experience. The menu is limited and the wine list too. But... More

Very typical italian trattoria - enjoyed the atmosphere very much. Food is also traditional roman and good. Service is ok as well. Good for visitors to experience the typical trattoria.

Was told by an Italian friend from Milan that this place served the best Carbonara in Rome, so determined to pay a visit despite the reputation for questionable attitude towards tourists and was proved correct on both counts! After making a reservation for 8pm (early by Rome standards) we arrived to an empty restaurant but was ushered to a table... More

Came here twice -- had the Amatriciana and the roast lamb both times. The service was very unfriendly one time and totally over-friendly the other. I'd eat that food under any conditions though.

Typical Italian Trattoria outside the city center. Accommodations and staff as from Fellini films. The old Roman dishes: very spicy and very tasty. Poor choice of drinks and desserts, inappropriate price, unfortunately spoils the general impression.

From the outside its pretty unassuming and doesn't work hard to get your attention but it doesn't need to as its recommended! Inside is old plain and basic but it's about the traditional Roman food here. It's Best to book a table but we hadn't they still accommodated us. Ham starter was very good and waiters recommendation of carbonara was... More

Were told by a taxi driver. Authentic decor, not exceptional. Isolated location, but this is the key to a real restaurant for locals and fewer tourists... Very nice. Very good roman food, tasty and authentic. Extremely attentive service by a waiter (20 years in the house !) with a lot of humor, and very efficient. Very nice with the children.... More

Staying in Testaccio

Neighbourhood Profile
Put the house music on replay and you have Testaccio, an ancient Roman port and former working class neighbourhood where the bass is set to high almost every night of the week. Its collection of discoteche (nightclubs), street parties, and crowded restaurants give it its well-deserved party reputation. During the daytime, Testaccio is more easy listening than club hit, the area is full of locally owned small businesses and has one of the city's larger produce markets.
