Ristorante Salumeria Roscioli is a multi-function delicatessen, an unconventional restaurant, and a rich and varied wine bar, where the cuisine is based on high quality materials selected over the years by the Roscioli brothers and an attentive and ready staff. The menu presents traditional starters and main dishes, as well as the results of conceptions from the national cuisine – raw fish from the Mediterranean and Tyrrhenian, selections of French or Italian Alpine cheeses, classified by typology and maturation, but also cold cuts of Spanish or native origin, all cut by hand.

Roscioli has garnered a reputation for its authentic Italian cuisine and charming atmosphere, earning accolades for its friendly and helpful service. While a few guests have encountered slower service or rudeness, the majority feel well cared for. Due to its central location and popularity, securing a reservation is strongly advised to avoid long waits. Travelers are enchanted by the lively vibe, though it can get crowded. While most diners rave about the flavors, a few note occasional inconsistencies. Guests also appreciate the nearby bakery/pizza outpost for its ambiance and service.

This restaurant came highly recommended as a premiere location to dine, especially for local fare like carbonara or cacio e pepe. It definitely is exceptional quality food! We had mozzarella di bufala and salume, followed by carbonara, with Aperol to drink. Everything was amazing! There were mostly locals there as well, and the place was packed, so you know the reputation lives up. The only reasons I gave 4 out of 5 stars were these: the price to dine is a bit higher than the average trattoria in Rome (where you can also find amazing food off the beaten path for less euro), and the staff was less than welcoming. We found them to be quite judgy, even though I spoke only Italian to them and we were exceedingly polite and laudatory of the food. My experiences in Rome have always been warm, which is why it stood out.

Stop reading this review and just go make a reservation at Roscioli .. They are hard to come by but worth it. On this trip we booked at 2:45 lunch in the wine cellar and enjoyed every last bite. The atmosphere, food and service are all top notch. Also don't forget to visit their bakery a few doors down. We have always been too full to grab a slice of pizza or a sweet but it is on my list of must haves for next time.

Came here with my boyfriend and it was the stand out dinner of our days in Rome. Surprised to see the other reviews about the service— we had no problems. In fact, when the wine we requested was not available, the server recommended one that was 10 euros cheaper and it ended up being absolutely amazing. During the appetizer we were admiring the ricotta behind the deli counter and our server brought out a slice for us (we paid for it at the deli price of course, but it was not on the dinner menu so we appreciated the service). Pasta was delicious and the inside of the restaurant is charming. Would definitely come back the next time I’m in Rome!

This was probably the worst meal we have had in Italy. We decided to try this place as it was close to where we were staying, and it had over 4,000 reviews. We tried to get a table on a Saturday night and they were slammed. We thought this was probably a good sign, so decided to go back again and try it. We got a table in the tiny restaurant, which by the way has some random decor. Not only can you eat here, you can also buy some canned pasta sauce, a bottle of hard alcohol and a pocket knife. . . kinda random. We ordered the croquette flowers stuffed with ox tail, they were not that impressive. We waited a long time for our next meal, it would have been fine if the food was worth the wait. . .it wasn’t. We both ordered the Casio E Pepe, and a side of broccoli. The broccoli was overcooked and needed salt, it also came with what seemed like a hand pie filled with overcooked broccoli. The pasta was terrible! The pasta needed about another 2 minutes of cooking before it would have been “al dente”. It was crunchy! The sauce was bland and needed more pepper, but pepper isn’t on the table, so we had to hunt some down on a near by table. We ate about half of our pasta and couldn’t eat anymore because it was so bad. Then when we asked for our check, they asked why we didn’t like it. We were so surprised that the waiter flat out asked us, we had to tell him the truth. We could not get out of there fast enough. I am baffled as to why this place had so many rave reviews. The food was mediocre, and the service was lousy. Do yourself a favor and skip this place, you won’t miss much. Instead, go down the ally to Danel Tavernae, that place will blow your mind and your tastebuds will be happy!

We went there because we wanted to try out new restaurants in Rome we hadn't been to before and because of the hype Female Foodie had created around it. However, we were terribly disappointed. The starters were great but that was about it. The pasta was all average but overpriced. So was the dessert (I had a tiramisu). Those were things you could easily get at other restaurants in Rome for a better price (and often better quality). The wine was crazy expensive and there was no recommendation or anything, like they usually do in an Italian restaurant. We were given the waiter's broken smartphone to read the wine list and pick one. Worst of all, while we were still enjoying our wine, the room became empty and the waiter started rearranging the tables, which was super annoying and stressful. Not long after (around 21:10) we were pretty much kicked out of the restaurant, although when making the reservation we were told we could be there until 23:00. We literally had to leave our wine glasses full of wine and go out of the restaurant. All in all, pretty mediocre restaurant with horrible service and higher than average price. If you're looking for a tourist trap, you can find cheaper ones for sure.

The restaurants aims to serve authenthic roman cuisine, and partially delivers on this promise. However, if the style and craftmanship is simple granny home cooking, with severe lack of elegance, the prices should reflect this. The dishes lacked elegance, and everything was extremely rich with butter and cheese, to the point where both diners felt bloated for hours afterwards. It is clear that the ingredients are all of good quality, but it seems the kitchen is too rushed or inexperienced to elevate them. We were promised a table for four hours, but was then suddenly handed a bill after two hours even though we had only halfway finished a bottle of wine. While a two hour dining windows might be common in many european capitals at this point, it is not the style in Rome, and shouldn’t become the norm. Diners are seated close together (with no proper social distancing possibilities) and often staff is literraly doing their work right over your head while you are trying to eat. Long story short, this should be a ultra-cheap lunch place that has somehow been hyped for years, and I urge you to go elsewhere.

Went for lunch on a cold Tuesday in Rome and loved it. It's quirky as it's a restaurant within a deli but it makes for a great atmosphere. You can really splash out or have something simple like the cacio e pepe (pasta, pepper and cheese). My partner had the carbonara which was incredible with crispy pork cheek pieces. Wine list is also great. Highly recommend.

My partner and I recently spent a week in Rome and Roscioli was the first restaurant we went to followed by a second time because the food was that delicious. The first time we went I got the gnocchi with pecorino cheese and black pepper sauce and my partner had the carbonara. These two dishes were beyond anything we were expecting. The carbonara will go down as being the best pasta we have ever had. Desserts were fantastic, we had a tiramisu and the sfoglia ( raspberry meringue). The service was always perfect, we were given a dessert for free by one of the waiters which was very kind. The second time we visited I had to get the carbonara and my partner had the raviolo, the only fault with the raviolo was that the portion was quite small but was absolutely amazing. Throughout our entire trip through europe Roscioli is the one we recommend the most.

I had booked this place online about four months prior to the reservation for my girlfriend’s birthday dinner. I had read about this place in an article where a famous Italian chef by the name of Massimo Bottura (who owns the world’s greatest restaurant of 2016 & 2018) said with a lot of confidence that the best Cacio e Pepe in Rome is found at Roscioli. Despite arriving about half an hour early for your reservation, we were still seated immediately. A charming waiter who spoke quite good English took our order and started us off with some fresh bread (not complimentary but I didn’t mind) and this wonderful tomato dip of sorts that tasted as if the tomatoes were just picked from a garden when we put our bread order in. After not too long a wait, our pasta arrived. I ordered the Amatriciana with mezze maniche shaped pasta (a short, tubular pasta) whilst my girlfriend tried out their famous Cacio e Pepe with fresh pasta noodles (paired with a delicious white wine). When I took my first bite of my Amatriciana, it was as if fireworks went off in my mouth. There was so much flavour; a perfect amount of seasoning with a spicy kick that somehow manages to to not overwhelm the overall seasoning of the dish but further highlight it. The pasta itself was al dente and this gave the dish a lovely bite that went well with the fried guanciale (crispy pig cheek). My girlfriend’s pasta was as equally impressive; a fantastic, well-seasoned cheesy pasta dish that was both sophisticated and comforting. For our main course, I had the Sella Di Maialino (sucking pig) and my girlfriend had a selection of salmon. No complaints here either. The suckling pig was especially delicious; parts were beautifully crispy and others were sublimely tender. Finally, it was time for dessert. My girlfriend’s tiramisu was absolutely terrific. I ordered a Sbrisolona; a white chocolate and almond crumble cake. It wasn’t quite up my taste but it was nevertheless quite tasty. As a last treat, we were also served, at no expense, some wonderful biscotti with a chocolate dip. It was the perfect end to an unforgettable evening.

We booked our table for Friday night and were given a 2hr slot for dinner (7-9pm). Our order was taken way after 7.30 (the Internet was not working at the far back of the restaurant where we were seated) and our drinks came after 8pm. Appetizers arrived equally late (the artichokes were tasty, cheese selection was nice but way too expensive for the portions). We complained about not being served out food by 8.30pm and also made a joke to the lady assisting our table for being the only ones that were not brought the complementary soup in the beginning. Food was ok (all pasta dishes), but nothing spectacular. We did not go for dessert.

I read a lot of good things about this restaurant, but I was really disappointed. You cannot have access to the restaurant unless you reserve, and it takes a long time (almost one hour) to be served and to pay. The food we had was not that great. The waiter brought my coffee before my lunch when I asked to get it after, I didn’t have a glass for my sparkling water, and didn’t get bread even though I asked for it.

Booked this place for a dinner and was honestly scared seeing the recent reviews of the place. On one of the tours leading up to the dinner a guide mentioned that this place is amazing. They noted the following: 1) the food is normal Roman cuisine, but the ingredients are beyond phenomenal, 2) its standard Roman service meaning waiters are fast, get your order in, eat and get out. I also want to mention my reservation confirmation clearly noted a 2 hour table limit and to be honest, with the size of the place you understand why. This set expectations. That being said, the tables had dividers between them and were well spaced, waiters were quick and the meal had a good pace. We easily drank a glass of Prosecco and bottle of white wine while having two apps, two mains, and three desserts and still had about 10 min to spare. I will say the food itself blew our socks off. Something simple like a burrata with truffle pearls had so much flavor we questioned all the burratas we’ve eaten prior to it. This place is all about quality and respects the food. Really recommend this place!

We had dinner down in the cellar which had great atmosphere. Delicious, inventive food, and really good service. Very welcoming, helpful & made our night the best one of our stay in Rome. Our meal was so good we also went to their pizza cafe which made the pizza we ate in Rome!

A TV chef lauded restaurant may be on a hiding to nothing: should the experience be beyond praise then it's hardly a surprise; likewise, an underwhelming disappointment begets a ' told you so'. Roscioli is a 'told you so'. It displays an impressive delicatessen on entry (a sister 'bakery' a street away is equally resplendent) but it's all about covers thereon in with diners shifted in on time slots to tables that hardly have room for chairs. It may just as well have one long shared banquette before a bench. Surely, it's a glorified caff, an expensive glorified caff with perfunctory service to boot. Hardly awful but there are not a few restaurants close by that offer a carbonara that is just as good with the space and atmosphere to enjoy it.

This was recommended to me no less than 7 times by friends, colleagues and family, and was already top of my list as an avid review researcher. Perhaps I had too high expectations but we were pretty disappointed. The food is good yes, not amazing. Service was average at best. The place is cute and is clearly popular. Compared to some of the other places we'd eaten at, we came away feeling that it was far too hyped up and overpriced.
