The secret: for a good dinner at a reasonable price in Rome, start by learning to navigate the public transportation system. Then go in any direction, but at least 5 bus stops from the touristy areas. Of course, you can cheat and take a cab. Case in point: il Focolare in Monteverde Vecchio. The food is twice as good as... This restaurant is just excellent and our favorite in Rome. It is a local restaurant outside the tourist traps with mainly Italian customers. The pizzas are great, the seafood is great, actually all meals are great. Just go.

Typical Italian/Roman restaurant where you can eat Well at reasonable prices. We loved it and the tiramisu is one of the best. Wood oven for pizzas too. In one week we went 3 times!

Rome has many fine restaurants, but this local place up on the Janiculum is our favorite. The food is exceptional, the staff is gracious and the atmosphere is like your neighborhood favorite place. We always stop by when in Roma

We were recommended to go to Il Focolare by a friend who lives in Rome and we are so grateful for this local knowledge! We were welcomed warmly and made to feel at home immediately. We started with classic antipasti of bruschetti which were all freshly made and simply delicious.I followed this with an amazing bowl of ravioli stuffed with... More

The menu provides every sort of marine option, but what they boast as their strength is really their weakness. Their non-marine pasta was ok. Service very nice and welcoming though, though the food took some time to arrive.

they let us eat at 10.30pm on Monday of October and considering the city and fellow restaurants that's enough already to rate you 5stars besides that the food is very good and fish is fresh even on a Monday of middle October Tuna Tartare porcini alla piastra e fettuccine ai funghi was my pick with tiramisù as end what can... Very welcoming neighborhood ristorante for our group of foot-weary Year of Mercy pilgrims. Sampled many menu items...all winners. Of special note, our regular server André speaks excellent English, is patient and jocular, and remembered each of us like family. By the end of our week stay, we gave him cart blanche to select our final celebration dinner menu and wine... More

Actually, this restaurant really outdid our expectations with lovely food, friendly service and a good atmosphere. All for a fair price.

Excellent ristorante di quartiere. We sat outside in August so there was little traffic. Food was cheap and very, very good. Nice local wine, also cheap. Unrushed, friendly service. Excellent cacao e pepe, lamb, contorni. I went a little overboard and ordered the semifreddo for dessert which was excellent. No complaints. If you are in Monteverde and want an unpretentious... Staying in Monteverde

Neighbourhood Profile
Monteverde
Above the city on the Janiculum hill, Monteverde is Rome’s popular "getaway" neighbourhood, coveted for its greenery. Rome's largest urban park, Villa Pamphili, is the area's centrepiece with affordable prices and peace and quiet. Monteverde is just far enough away from the centre to feel like you’re on a Roman holiday and close enough to feel the lure of Rome's chaos. Though its downside is the lack of scheduled public transport, this family-oriented area is literally a well-deserved walk in the park.
