My brother had his wedding reception here, and it was amazing. From the sumptuous food to the attentive care of the staff, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and had the best day. I lost count of how many courses we had! Both the starters and desserts...were served buffet style outdoors, while the main courses were served inside. The beautiful setting of the Restaurant added to the romantic atmosphere of the day.More

A real find … we had stumbled upon it years ago, and were delighted to return. A surprisingly elegant restaurant, dating from 1804 (!), built on top of ancient ruins, right on the Appian Way, steps away from the catacombs of St. Sebastian and Callixtus....Lovely food, lovely experience, kind staff. We had a cheese course (delicious, best blue cheese I've ever had), octopus, a simple pasta with tomatoes and parmesan (absolutely superb), and lamb, with several glasses of pleasant wine, Zuppa Inglese for dessert (probably not my favorite), and coffee. We had reservations for 1 pm, there were few people there, but by 2:30 it was full of Italian families. Inside was warm and cosy with a fire going in the fireplace, but it was warm enough that some people were sitting outside. Highly recommended.More

Fantastic food and good service. We greatly enjoyed our lunch here on a hot day after our walk along the Appian Antica.

Do NOT go to this restaurant. This was our third time at L'Archeologia. I brought my mother for her first visit to Rome. I have lived here for three years. We were speaking English at the table (with her and my boyfriend, who is Italian)...and the restaurant clearly assumed we were tourists. We were the second table seated and I watched as table after table had their orders taken before ours (even after asking our waitress politely twice if we could order). By the time we ordered the appetizers we had already been there 55 minutes. The waitress who took our orders explained that she assumed we were "not ready" to order. I was on the verge of tears at this point having been ignored for the better part of the past half hour. At the end of our meal, when the bill arrived, we discovered that the glass of prosecco the first waitress had offered when we sat down ("vi posso portare 3 bicchieri di prosecco?") was NOT on the house and instead was added to our bill. The bill also listed the rooster we ordered as 22 euros when it was on the menu for 18 euros (they corrected our bill). They offered us two desserts but we nice but didn't make up for feeling completely humiliated. I have never had such a poor experience at a restaurant in Rome and I regretted this meal. I felt terrible for having talked the restaurant up to my mother beforehand. Previously, I had always had a nice time at this restaurant. We will not be going back. Unfortunately, everything about this experience felt like the classic "tourist trap" restaurant experiences I have read about but had thankfully never experienced until today (ie. experiencing dramatically different service and different prices compared to what was offered to local diners). It's a shame that the tasty pasta was not enough to take the bitter taste of this dining experience away.More

My wife and I made our way out to the Appian Way from the center of Rome and we were not disappointed. We had a great dinner at L'Archeologia; we highly recommend. In the time of Corona one of the first things we look for...is a patio. L'Archeologia is a large restaurant with abundant patio seating. The patio area is mostly within the confines of the restaurant and covered with umbrellas, so it is not exactly an open air setting. The food was great, although the portions for the mains were a little smaller than a typical Rome restaurant. They started us with a delicious amuse-bouche of a chili filled with yellowfin. For starters we had the fritto misto, tempura fried mixed seafood and veggies, and I had the sea bass tartar. For mains, my wife had beef, I had the rooster. We did not have dessert, but they served a delightful petit four. The service was excellent and they took all the necessary COVID-19 safety measures. We were especially impressed because when they did not have the bottle of prosecco we ordered that they offered a higher cost replacement at the same price. Speaking of wine, they have an amazing wine cellar, you can see down to it through a glass door. Be sure to check it out. It is a bit expensive, but worth it.More

Perfect service. Food creativity of the plates can be improved, I had ravioli with genovese, and was not the best honestly. Small portions for the prices. Good wine selection.

Very small portions, variable (highly variable!) quality, and steep prices. The lamb was fine, the desert was unedible (really bad), the prosciutto was only fat! The nice ambiance and the beautiful adega do not justify the poor quality. We left hungry even after paying more...than 50 euros per person. They will give you biscuits at the end to make up for the lack of food in the plates. Come on...More

The surroundings are nice and the cellar is spectacular however we found the food quite average. Maybe it was because it was a set menu

The restaurant is right in the middle of the catacombs area. My colleagues and I had a dinner here on an october night. The menu was preordered so we didn't chose any dish on our own but they were all pretty good. I don't eat...gluten so I had GF option and they also managed for vegetarian options. Indoor tables under a tent with quite a pleasant service.More

This was a great lunch traveling with OAT on a fixed menu. Our second course was a pesto, arugula risotto with mozerello cheese and tomato and our first course was a salad. Light but perfect for timing.

Great little place. Mostly locals. A couple of miles from the #Colosseum in Rome. Off the beaten path a bit but a fantastic lunch. Fresh everything. Simple. And reasonably priced. Highly recommend.

My family and I ate here for lunch and it was amazing. The flour & water pasta in pomodoro sauce that I had was delicious as were the Calamari de Fritti the table shared as an appetizer. I wish I had more time in Rome...so I could come back and try some more of the menu. Truly a wonderful place. I highly recommend going here for at least one meal on your trip to Roma.More

What a glorious evening outside right near an ancient olive tree. The pictures don’t do it justice. The gardens outside were luxurious. We are foodies and each dish was delectable and prepared with loving care! We were treated like we were part of the family...and we even got a private tour of the wine cellar which was an ancient catacomb. The prices were extremely reasonable for the gourmet quality compared to prices in New Jersey and New York. The quantity of food was good. We shared crispy prawns, octopus, and shrimp pasta and each got an entree. What a memorable and delightful romantic evening. Very serene outside. We felt like we escaped the hustle and bustle and were at a luxurious villa. Even the drive out of rome was adventurous and fun!More

We had lunch here after a walking tour the Appian Way, the Villa di Massenzio and the Catacombs San Sebastiano. It was a perfect ending to the morning tour. The food was delicious, service friendly and prompt. The setting is beautiful. We highly recommend this...restaurant; easy walking distance from the catacombs.More

Really, really good pasta. Enjoyed lunch very much. Pasta prepared perfectly. Rich in history, right down the street from the Catacombs of San Sebastian. Maybe a 75M walk and right across the street.
