staying in the area, we were told of several restaurant options that did not seem right for us. so we walked on. found the santa marta by accident, and it is in a very nice area to explore with galleries, near the pinacoteca ambrosiana. service was fine. they spoke English. very nice meal of branzino, soup, polenta. good wine list,... Despite the food itself was quite tasty, the whole experience was ruined by the service. First of all the staff don't speak English at all. NOT AT ALL. According to my opinion it is quite shameful. We went in with a relatively big company of 10 people. We were waiting for our food for 3 hours (!!!!) despite the restaurant... More

Eat, if you can, on the rooftop terrace or try the beautiful restaurant. Whichever the quality of the food is out of this world and superb value.

We had great expectations for this ristorante as it's a little off the beaten track and very traditional looking as we like it. Well, first course was really very good buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes and basel the cheese was so fresh. Next course was osso booco with malanese rice, the meat was grisly and tough as though it wasn't cooked... More

So thoughtful in ingredient selection, preparation, and presentation. Attentive service and a solid grasp of English.

We first went for a drink on the roof top terrace, amazing views across Milan. Then next evening we ate our meal up there. The food was delicious, the service was brilliant all the food comes up 5 floors then up a spiral stair case, thankyou.

We arrived at this Ristorante just as they were opening on a Monday evening. It looked rather up-market so we explained that we were tired and jet-lagged from our flight from Canada and were just looking for a pizza and a bottle of wine before collapsing into bed. We were welcomed into the lovely dining room with the warning that... More

I was visiting that place randomly because we were walking by but I can only WARN you to go there... 1. The waiters were all pretty impolite - they tried to act urbane but you could clearly see that they had no real education as a waiter or any specidic education I expect for a restaurant of that price range... You know when you are in a genuinely good traditional restaurant when it is patronised mainly by local people. In fact they call in even up until 11 pm making for a relaxed friendly atmosphere. We love to eat here because it is in a quiet area well away from the tourist hoards in the Opera/Dumo area. It was convenient... More

Staying in Centro Storico

Neighbourhood Profile
Centro Storico
The pulsating core of Milan is in Centro. Duomo Square is enclosed by the gothic cathedral, the historic icon of Milan. However, shopping is what draws most crowds to this area. The classy and versatile Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II with luxury boutiques and high quality restaurants will turn any shopping or lunch expedition into a royal experience. Head to the rooftop of the flagship La Rinascente to enjoy the view of the animated square with a panorama of the Duomo. The Corso Vittorio Emanuele II is the street for high-end shopping. Brands of all kinds and street artists attract the attention of all visitors; while at Via Santa Radegonda 16, Luini Panzerotti is a much appreciated street food shop providing unimaginable culinary experiences. If shopping takes its toll on you, consider visiting Castello Sforzesco, a 15th century castle housing several museums. Those looking to relax can go to Parco Sempione, where nature provides respite from the energy of this dynamic and international city.
