This was the first time when i was served pre cooked and microwaved risotto. I never knew this was still happening. Beware, the food is mostly pre-cooked and microwaved and is mediocre at best.

We liked this place. The food was good and they were really nice. The cicchetti were good, but there was something like mayonnaise that I didn't like. The pasta was very good.

Super nice place to have aperitivo. Perfect and lovely location and particular food. It's one of the Bacaretto to visit! I had some snacks (cicchetti) and aperolspritz. I don't know about the dinner but i think it's more a place to drink, snack and chat.

We made a reservation after noticing how busy this place was every time we passed by. It is a very casual place where the staff are moving at top speed to keep up. It is very crowded and loud. There were two of us for dinner. We shared a plate of fritto misto which was superb. The fish was very... More

There aren't many affordable and well rated restaurants in Venice so we booked ahead at this place, which looks lovely, and went along full of anticipation. Certainly the tapas at the bar look amazing. But we sat at the tables and had he menu. It sounded good but was variable. Gnocchi were delicious, but the pasta was so-so and the... More

This place its really hard to get to, its very near Campo Santa Marina, so if you get there ask for directions, or try getting to Marco Polos house and you'll see it to your left. We found it by accident when passing by the night before we visited and the place was packed with people and decided to try... More

Lovely little place to eat, make sure you book before you arrive. Huge portions, I had the polenta with grilled cheese and then gnocchi, it was delicious!!

We walked past this while searching for our accommodation and were impressed with the buzz so decided to try it out and were not disappointed. It was a Saturday night and the tiny restaurant / bar was a hive of industry, both inside and out. There was a constant stream of people coming in and out of the place ordering... More

This place was AMAZING. So amazing that we had to make a reservation because the first night it was totally booked. It's a tiny little place in a typical winding alleyway - we got lost trying to find it again the second night - but absolutely the best food we ate in Venice. Seriously, everything was good. The eggplant ravioli... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
