Chose this for our last night as it was very near our hotel and most reviews suggested it was something special. We didn't book so had to sit in the newer extension so no atmosphere of the ancient at all in fact the ceiling looked like the white plastic awnings restaurants tend to use on outside seating areas in case... RESTAURANT'S FAVOURITE REVIEW

Lovely little restaurant, great decor, fantastic food and wonderful service. We had a superb meal which wasn't cheap but was fairly priced for the quality. Can't think of anything but positives about the place.

Being positioned close to the markets, we expected this restaurant to have fresh food using local ingredients. What we got, however, were big portions with average tastes. The seafood wasn't particularly fresh, and the dessert tasted as if it had been frozen and then warmed. The bread was stale and the breadsticks packaged. Though packed and with a friendly waitstaff,... More

Stumbled across this restaurant by accident. It is close to the Rialto but not on the Grand Canal. It has its own bridge over a canal to the front door. Very good service and food was great - especially if you like fish. Bill for four of us including two bottles of prosecco was 210 euros for three courses. Quite... More

My partner and I had gotten engaged that day, so wanted to go somewhere special for dinner to celebrate. A friend had told me about this place and decided to give it a go. A little tricky to find, but such a lovely old building, full of character and romance. We went in February so it was cold outside, but... More

Unique old building. I guess it was Venice's first post office. The staff was very nice, but the food was average. They recommended seafood of course-the location is next to the seafood market. No spice to the dishes. Where are the red pepper flakes and garlic? What surprised me most was the cost of the wine list. we had lunch... More

The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and service was very good. The food was decent but nothing special. 2 main courses and 2 drinks came to 60 euros. There was however, a slight smell of sewage.. Overall not a bad experience.

This is the best meal I had in Venice. I stepped in the restaurant at 2:45 pm without knowing that it would close at 3pm but they still served me nicely and didn't let me know the restaurant would be closed until I finished my food. Apart from the hospitality, the seafood pasta was literally the best I had. The... More

Recommended by our hotel Rialto ...this was a brilliant meal ....lovely restaurant...great service ......and fantastic food ...we were greeted with a glass of Prosecco ...then the waiter assisted us in choosing a lovely Pinot Noir from Treviso ...we started with sharing the Marinated salmon which was gorgeous...and although the restaurant is renown for it's fish...my wife and I chose steaks... Extremely disappointing. We were here for my wife birthday and left having eaten little of what was presented. I had my suspicions that 'the oldest restaurant in Venice' was being marketed for its history rather than its food, and sadly that proved to be the case. We paid, left and went to another restaurant.

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
