A small restaurant with a very nice selection of local wines and an inventive chef. Really a culinary experience. Moderately priced and the service is great.

The food was amazing! The service was just want you want. The owner served me and when asked took the time to explain how the wine and grappa were made.

We went there as it is close to the hotel we are staying. Lunch was surprisingly good the taste of the pasta lingers on. Decided to go back for dinner the following day instead of the usual tourist restaurant around the corner. Service was very attentive. The staff (think might be the owner) recommended some specialty for the day and... More

This is where we ate our last supper in Venice, and I am so glad we did! The service is wonderful and personal, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is excellent. They were out of my first choice (since they get seafood daily according to what has been caught, that wasn't surprising), but the swordfish I got instead was... More

We wanted to get away from the brightly lit touristy restaurants along the busy streets of Venice, so on our way back to our apartment we came across Alla Fontana. They have tables outside facing a canal, but because it was raining we sat inside and the interior was small, but so warm and charming. The food and service were... More

We had just arrived and wanted a late lunch away from the crowds. We had spotted some nice restaurants on the way in by water bus so decided to head that way. I had the whole wheat pasta with tuna washed down by a very respectable half litre carafe of their draught red wine. Prompt and pleasant service. Noticed it... More

We had lunch and decided to go back later in the week for dinner. Friendly staff and really good food. Young Venetian proprietor serving fresh food made in house. It's just off the beaten track but easy to find Thoroughly recommended

A month later, we still think about this meal. My husband and young daughter and I came one evening and happily sat along the canal. Our waiter was fantastic, very passionate about the food and not afraid to make recommendations. My daughter had a lovely light pasta with zucchini and my husband and I both had versions of cuttlefish. We... More

Went here on our first night in Venice based on its reviews and rating. Was in a good spot by the water and all looked good with the waiter/owner (?) Presenting the menu with plenty of discussion about the local origin of the food and wines. We ordered a local cabernet and were informed that he had run out of... More

Very good fish (order the marinaded fish as a starter) and great wine. Very good waiting staff and a nice, quiet location by the water.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
