We stumbled across this place having been to The Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari opposite. Quirky characterful old bar with nice artwork, unusual mezzanine level, huge selection of spirits and nibbles with the first beer, which was reasonably priced.

The alluring smell of the food draws you in and then once in, you don't want to leave. Amazing bread first of all and then the various toppings are mouth watering. There are a few sofas and tables upstairs too which allow you to relax a bit more. Great, friendly service.

Enjoyed lunchtime drinks, pre dinner drinks and post dinner coffee and digestives in this delightful bar. Highly recommended. Good music and atmosphere.

This little pub-type restaurant pushed all the buttons for me. My wife and I had just popped in for a quick bite after visiting the Basilica dei Frari across the street (which doesn't open to visitors until 13h00 on Sundays). In a display window were a selection of open-faced sandwiches on whole-wheat bread, and we ordered four half sandwiches, a... More

We stumbled onto this place while looking for a place to grab a quick bite during our day trip to Venice. It doesn’t strike you as anything special from the outside, but wins you over with the coziness of the interior. Even though it is pretty small, there is enough room at every table and the seating is comfortable. The... More

We popped in here by chance for a quick bite and a drink. Staff were very friendly and explained what wine was available etc. The beer was also better than the standard lager you see everywhere in Venice if you are a real ale drinker. We shared a cheese and ham sandwich with grilled veg on it...it was really tasty!... More

One of the best hot chocolates in Venice - thick and creamy and lush! And the selection of gins looked pretty tempting too!

This place was fantastic. We enjoyed every moment. The lady who looked after us ( in the photo) was superb. She described every drink in detail and also the tapas. We were there for a few hours and it was a brilliant time. The music was somewhere in time smooth jazz so relaxing. . . The cocktails were tasty and... More

Very atmospheric and pretty Bell Epoque styled bar and cafe with great cakes and snacks and excellent spritzers. Right opposite the Frari's front door!

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
