My husband and I wanted to find a restaurant away from the crowds while in Venice. We walked away from the main tourist areas and found this restaurant. The posted menu looked interesting so we sat down outside. One waiter came over to bring menus. Quite a while later, a different person came to take our order. I chose the... More

In the most hidden part of dorsoduro, in a very pop and student area, you'll find this cozy trattoria. I had dinner with my long-standing friends. The food was very pleasing from preparation to presentation. The dishes are properly prepared with some interesting flavour combinations at play, and a lot of evident technical skill from the Chef. Also, the service... More

I don't usually do brief. That good food, nice atmosphere, reasonably priced schtick is OK but I want to know what it was like, really like and what you had to eat and how you were treated and what good on the wine list. People from Friuli, east of Venice opened this terrific little restaurant sometime in the early 2000s.... More

After walking all morning through Venice we were starving, we found very easy the location but the portions of food were too small for our appetite. The Aperol Spritz was tasty.

This is a restaurant which is frequented by locals but is very open to tourists and delivers some lovely food. The owner communicated with me very well via email to make the booking and welcomed us personally on arrival. Our first plate of a pea and liquorice risotto was the best I'd ever tasted. We were less keen on our... More

We liked this place so much, we went back the next day and tried the rest of the menu! The sharing plate of antipasti was excellent and the house wines also good. Excellent ham. The other courses were all tasty. The liquorice risotto was a tad disappointing, lacking flavour. However, other plates were much better. Puddings on the second day... More

It would be easy to miss this place as it's tucked away but we found the food and wine excellent. The staff very friendly and took the time to explain everything on the menu.

We really wanted to like this place which came recommended to us but it failed to please in the main meal department. Ricotta crepe was bland and lifeless, risotto was ok, a glass of brunello for $10 was not up to par. Found the owners a bit stiff in the hospitality department. The singular memorable dish was desert: the tiramisu,... More

The welcome is warm and personal - they remember you from year to year- in this lovely trattoria tucked Into the quiet Campo opposite the Angelo Raffaele church (heads up fans of Miss Garnett's Angel) The 'medium' plate of San Daniele ham look HUGE but it's as delicate as tissue paper and before you know it, it's all gone. Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
