Stumbled across this place and had the sardines, scampi, and swordfish pasta. They all were very well done and the house red also very good. Prices were average. Would return.

Boxing day, Venice. Came upon this square as a surprise, there's actually a tree in it! Delicious pasta and fish. Friendly service. We sat ouside and watched families mingle, children play.

We arrived on New Year's Eve, the sun was shining and we came across this restaurant in Piazza San Giacomo on our way to the supermarket. It was bearable to sit outside and we enjoyed watching everyone wander around, so we sat down for lunch. The waiters were entertaining, not rude or difficult, but just seemed confused and distracted! I... More

We had a good, traditional Italian dinner with salad and very tasteful pasta. The "house" wine was good and the service very friendly.

Avoid this restaurant if you have concerns about shell fish issues or bill padding (as several other reviewers have noted). A woman seated next to me at lunch ordered assorted fried fish and clearly explained she was allergic to shell fish. When her meal arrived, it was mainly shellfish (shrimp, squid, etc). When she complained, the waiter stated "it is... More

We stoped there for breakfast and retgret it. We made our order and 10 mins later the waiter came back to say they don't have what we've just ordered. We ask then for coffee and croissants and he got very angry with that for some reason. We realized it was better to go somewhere else. Unfortunatly we left there by... More

Despite reading the terrible comments made by others, we found ourselves having an amazing and friendly meal here. I could have stayed for hours. My Italian is broken at the best of times, but the staff were very accommodating and friendly. Would definitely eat here

When in Venice there is a natural tendency to want to explore. The canals and the byways, right? Who knows where the next small bridge will lead? We arrived in the Campo San Giacomo dell'Orio one evening by not following any predetermined path. I think we knew we would find a decent place for our evening meal. Giacomo dell'Orio offered... Caprese salad was poor - tasteless tomatoes and the mozzarella did not taste fresh. Pizza no better. Wish we had not been hasty in our decision, but we were hungry. Service was good.

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
