Traditional looking Osteria cooking mainly seafood. The staff were friendly and the food was excellent. Highlights are the lagoon sauce, the mixed Venetian starter and the home made tiramisu. All brilliant. This was my first meal in Venice and was expecting a large bill. However, a shared mixed starter, two plates of pasta, two desserts, a bottle of wine plus... More

My wife and myself had a great meal here after the restaurant was recommended by our hotel. The atmosphere was busy and friendly with a lot of locals mixed with some tourists like us. The waiter was very helpful and the service was just right. Plenty of attention but not over every 5 mins. It really delivered an authentic Venetian... More

I was here on a business trip for Italy. Since our flight was on the evening and we finished work in the morning we had time to explore Venice City. During the walk, we decided to come to Ghetto district and take some pictures and as soon as we came down from bridge we noticed the place. It seemed like... More

Enjoyed lunch here after the gondola rowing lesson. Definitely a place for the locals. Chef makes special dishes everyday and all the pasta is made from scratch. Not a big place, but definitely worth seeking and finding. The pasta and pizza were wonderful!

Out of the center, calm and gentle, you eat some fresh fried fish in middle of local venicians and some tourists

When we were unable to get into Anice Stellato (recommended to us as one of the best places to eat in Venice), we came across this packed restaurant close by and really enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. A classic Venetian antipasti of salt cod and wet polenta was delicious and the large platter of mixed grilled fish was impeccable.... More

Great fish restaurant with very fresh pasta! We had our last lunch in Venice here before heading to the airport. There was a bustling warm atmosphere with lots of locals and tourists as well, lots of families. I had spaghetti vendole and my boyfriend had the taglietelle with fresh shrimp. Both were wonderful, with a glug of house wine. Nice... More

Small but busy restaurant off the main tourist tracks but well worth a visit. Mainly fish based menu but some meat dishes. Everything leaving the small kitchen looked fantastic. Our spaghetti Bolognese was really excellent, well presented and seasoned

Felt so lucky to get a table rather late in lunchtime( having been brusquely turned away at a similar time on the Sunday) and had a nice lunch at the canalside. Told there was no choice-only fried fish. We were glad to get a nice table and a rest. Fish was fine but only one kind and rather expensive. I... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
