After reading the amazing reviews and waiting outside the door for 45 min for them to open I was disappointed that the staff was pretty unfriendly. We went with our two kids and I'm not sure if they didn't like tourists, tourists with kids or just our American accents. They seemed annoyed we didn't have reservations, and said they could... We visited this restaurant after reading all these good reviews in TA, and after passing by and noticing that lots of locals were drinking wine outside the premises. As it turned out the place is yet another tourist trap that serves mediocre food and is full only by tourists. We had the mixed starter which was full of (best case... More

This small osteria has the feel of a neighborhood “joint.” The food is excellent and well prepared. Our group of five shared several courses, including scallops, tuna tartar, and beef carpaccio appetizers, a whole bronzino, mixed fried seafood, and calf liver. Nothing hit a wrong note. The atmosphere is bustling, energized, and friendly. A great dinner.

No fuss place, excellent food and wine at an affordable price. The staff was nice and welcoming (so good we booked for a second dinner). Pasta the right way, the ombrina fish was memorable, and the sepia delicious. Popular place also for its food on the go at the bar, but I recommend you book a seated dinner to enjoy... More

Shared a massive T-Bone steak with my wife. Salad and potatoes followed by delicious poached pear with chocolate sauce. Lovely wine and coffee. Menu all in Italian but waiting staff can translate. Recommend to book as gets full most nights!

Was in Venice with my partner for a couple of days. Choose a room in the hotel Giorgione. Very near the hotel I've found this osteria. Well, from the welcome, to the advice on the wine, to the explanation of the menu (by the way in different languages) to the food ... all absolutely excellent!!! Recommended, fully recommended

Cheap wine, great pasta, awesome tiramisu. Book a table as it's rightly pretty busy. Best meal we had in Venice.

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
