I loved the spot! Very connected so it's easy to get there and is full of local people, so if you're looking for a typical Venice bar, I recommend it! Tried the panini and the beer, both excellent.

Cheap eats, open late. Sandwiches I got weren't the best. Kind service. Spend cash if you come here, not card.

What a gem. So close to the Grand Canal and so reasonably priced- mind boggling. The prices are very clearly displayed and the difference between sitting down or standing up explained. Food is just sandwiches or meat boards. Great atmosphere.

Great spot! I never miss it when I am in venice. Small typical spot. It is only a couple of minutes away from San Marco square but prices are not touristic at all. Actually quite cheap. Italian draft beer, great tramezzino sandwiches with whole bread. Cold cuts. Just great :)

Take a break from visiting museums and grab a drink and snack here. Everything is very reasonably priced and you can meet some locals. The staff was great and the drinks were strong (I ordered gin & tonic). The little tapas apps they have are delicious. Just sit back and enjoy a moment before you keep exploring Venice.

Heard about this place from Rick Steves guide and although I was able to secure a good sandwich for less the 4 euros selection was not anything like others nearby. The atmosphere was nice though evoking a neighborhood watering hole feel with locals drinking at 6pm.

We popped in here for lunch one day - the place was popular and rightly so! Despite the place being busy, food orders came out quick. The atmosphere in there was great, lots of locals in there which shows it must be good! We enjoyed our sandwiches, packed full of fillings and flavoursome. Great!

Came here for lunch after visiting St Marks Square and wasn't disappointed! Great tasting selection of sandwiches and three glasses of wine for under EUR 20. Fun, buzzy and lots of locals - highly recommended!

Bustling and busy across lunchtime, but we were served quickly and thoroughly enjoyed our reasonably-priced beers and tasty sandwiches, in a seat overlooking the street, sitting next to gondoliers and locals. :-)

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
