We were on Venice for birthday celebrations. On Sunday 7th we went to Bancogiro. We waited a good 10 minutes before anybody offered us a menu. When we got the menu after ordering drinks we discovered a very small choice of what could only be destined as eclectic dishes. What was served was OK however lunch came to an eye... More

Sitting beside tha Grand canal with a Prosecco and Buschetta is exactly what I wanted from Venice. This was a great place for this Good wine, good food...if only a snack, in a busy terrace beside the canal and not far from the Rialto Bridge We also found it very good value...for Venice

This place is in a plum location and is supported by great waiters. My partner had the liver (pictured) which he was crazy about. I was less impressed with my pasta unfortunately, which was fine but overpriced. Might just have made a wrong choice on this occasion though, as I saw some lovely-looking plates being delivered to other tables.

The ambience is great , good choice of wine ( but only by the bottle ) but when it comes to food , a big disappointment! They claim to create an evolved Italian cuisine but to us it was bland and insipid . Even the portions are small . We understand fusion and evolved food but it's wasn't either .... More

Centrally located, many tables outside, cozy interior downstairs and upstairs. Friendly staff, good recommendations. Good food in a relaxed atmosphere. We can visit this place again :)

Found this place while out for some after dinner drinks. Had some cicchetti and pinto Grigio, both were excellent. Service was good too, and they have a very nice and clean restroom. Close to Rialto bridge and a good way watch the grand canal at the end of the day.

Typical meal in Italy is the Aperitivo Time before dinner, in Venice this is a real special experience: Between 7pm and 8pm you should find a bacaro and ask for prosecco and cicchetti (small savory snacks). Bancogiro is one of the best locations for aperitivo (bacaro) with an incredible selection of wines and cicchetti that you can consume standing around... More

If you want to for a good glass of wine and a little bite, go to Osteris Bancogiro. We enjoyed the little bites and great choices of wine. You can stand outside or indoors. Great with friends or just to mingle amongst the Italian tourists / inhabitants. The average stay is 45 min. Quick wine and bite of good quality!

Staying in San Polo

Neighbourhood Profile
San Polo
The Rialto Bridge is the most famous sight along the Grand Canal in San Polo, smallest of Venice's six sestieri (districts) and by far the busiest neighbourhood. Morning Venetians arrive to peruse the markets for fish, fruit and vegetables, while shops display goods from cheese to wine to desserts. San Silvestro and Rialto Market vaporetto (water taxi) stops add to the steady stream of foot traffic. San Polo is defined by churches including Basilica dei Frari, one of the most important churches sought by art lovers.
