I had high expectations after reading the reviews. I booked a table for 8pm on a Wednesday in March and found that there were lots of empty tables when I arrived. I received a very friendly welcome and I was impressed by the menu. From the Primi I ordered the garganelli pasta with sea bass and wild fennel, which was... More

Really great place to eat and rest. The staff is welcoming beyond imagination (they provided us two free drinks) and the typical dishes served at lunch speak venetian. No thrills, only good food and real feel for 13 € (complete menu).

We stopped here on a slightly grey Saturday morning for coffee, took it standing at the bar as we do this time of day, had a biscuit and the husband couldn't resist a grambero patata which was very good too. Unfortunately no spremuta but friendly service who let me get on with my poor Italian! Thank you!

This is located in Cannaregio, a neighborhood where Venetians live. This is also where they eat. And it is where you will get great service, superb seafood, and a bill that will make your wallet smile. It's s bit of a walk from the heart of San Marco, but a very pleasant one and a great find for a wonderful... More

We ran across the Osteria when exploring the northern part of Venezia, trying to escape the carnival crowds. A quiet place, right next to one of the canals in the living area of Venezia, away from the tourists. Because of the time of the day we could only have cichetti, still this was one of the best food experiences we... More

Amazing venue for lunch. Great food with great prices. Even more amazing? Prosecco on tap and sold by the litre! Off the beaten path away from the hoards of tourists, be sure to dine outside if the weather is nice. Arrive early to avoid waiting for a table.

We fell into Osteria Bea Vita on a Sunday afternoon and left with big bellies and even bigger smiles. Cooking is traditional and don't expect finesse, but a tapas plate of anchovies was generous and delicious, a bowl of clams and mussels fed two with ease and the pasta we ate (and saw coming out of the kitchen) was excellent.... It's off the main strip but well worth it. I had pasta and scampi and it was delicious! The sauce was amazing. I highly recommend this place.

This is a really relaxed, unassuming eatery and excellent value for money. We enjoyed a shared starter of mixed seafood, then had delicious cuttlefish with polenta and pasta with sea bass and all was delicious. I loved the wider area of Cannaregio as it feels off the main tourist run - well worth a visit.

Found this place and thought we would give it a go as the place recommended to us had a 30 minute wait. It was such a good find, the staff could not have been more helpful. My chap listed it his pasta with sea bass and wild fennel in his top five meals of all time! My pasta pomodoro was... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
