I love popping into this bar.....Well actually I have never been in as it has been so busy and is very small. But it is perfect standing at the side of the canal drinking your wine. You can get a small glass of wine for 60 cents. Lots of locals come here so that is a recommendation in itself.

Unfortunately we missed the sandwiches as we didn't arrive here until 1pm. But the wine was amazing. The place was buzzing and we sat outside and drank wine for 60cent we couldn't believe it. Would definitely come back again the service was great and was lovely having a few glasses of wine on the grand canel

Cheap mini sandwiches mostly for €1. Basic but freshly prepared and tasty. Very popular with the local students, gets extremely busy so jump in the queue and make your way inside. Owner is great, has his chef hat on and serves quickly and efficiently. Plenty of wines to choose from, of course, and very reasonably priced. Get your selections and... More

Fantastic food and wine on the hoof, mouth watering local fresh food and wine / prosecco / beer, no room to eat inside, you have to eat in the square outside and marvel at the location. 50, 000 students cannot be wrong ha ha

Had tried to find this place after reading all the excellent reviews and one day just came across it by accident. So glad we did. This is one of those perfect little places that offers good quality food and drink at an inexpensive price which is hard to find in Venice. The portions may not be huge but for a... More

Staying in Santa Croce

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Croce
Santa Croce gained importance as a sestiere (district) when Piazzale Roma was created in the 1930s to bring cars and buses close to the center of Venice. Constitution Bridge spans the Grand Canal linking Piazzale Roma to the train station. This area buzzes with energy from travelers and students. Historic palaces and former industrial buildings house some departments of Ca' Foscari and IUAV Architecture universities. On the Fondaco dei Turchi, Venice's Museum of Natural History offers Venetians prehistoric thrills, plus an overview of lagoon fish and wildlife. The Grand Canal, northern boundary of Santa Croce, is lined with palaces and decorated by the tall green dome of San Simeon Piccolo. Ca' Pesaro attracts Venetians to its contemporary art exhibitions. The Grand Canal exposes only one face of these buildings. On the opposite side, the palace often interacts with a square or a busy street to represent its neighbourhood identity.
