This place is best for atmosphere! We sat in St Marco's square and people watched while soaking up the sun and listening to their wonderful band. Oh ya, we ordered food as well. The food is pricey but you pay for the atmosphere. We ordered sandwiches and beer for lunch. They served us in a silver tray and included olives,... More

My friend & I went there today enquiring about the bathroom, informed to use the bathroom we needed to make a purchase. We intended to do this anyway as a coffee was on our agenda. We sat down after using the bathroom to discover that the table charge for either a coffee or tea was $11.50 euro each !!!! We... More

We stayed for over an hour and had a great time. You are not merely paying for a drink, but paying for a seat listening to a concert in St Mark's square, one of the greatest squares in Europe. The 5 piece band (we enquired they were from Moldova) perform for 10 minutes followed by a 10 minute interlude so... More

If you happen to be in Venice, you won't miss visiting St Mark's square. In that case, try to take some time to stop at Caffè Lavena. It's an historic coffe shop and bar, founded in the mid 18th century. This is the place where Richard Wagner composed some of his work, while living in Venice. There you can have... More

Good location but grossly over priced - €15 for a cappuccino and €16 for a glass of chianti!!!! The service was good but it was a bit cheeky of the waiter to suggest we could add a tip.

A perfect Venice treat, yes it's expensive but there's probably no better location to sit and drink a coffee or something stronger watching the world go by listening to a great little orchestra. It's an experience worth doing.

Thank shrop

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
