We visit Venice quite regularly and this is definitely my favourite Gelateria. Lovely ice-creams and such friendly and hepful service. Do try it!

All the colors, all the flavors and not TOO fluffy. Our food market walking guide told us if the gelato is too fluffy its full of air. Gelato squero is just right and easy. You can take you gelato and stand alongside the canal overlooking one of the four remaining gondola workshops in Venice.

This is probably the best ice cream I've ever tasted. Their home made pistachio is the real deal. Also very friendly staff. Thank you!

We stopped in because my husband loves amaretto gelato and this was the first place we found it in Venice. Friendly owner or staff and good gelato. Merits a re-visit.

We happened across this gelato shop as it was next to a wine restaurant that we went to. The owner of the shop was very patient explaining some of the flavors that we were not familiar with and generally very helpful. The gelato itself was very good, one of our favorites, and they had a good selection of flavors. It... More

We were wandering around Venice, semi-lost, and came across this gelato shop. The guy behind the counter was very friendly. The gelato was worth looking for.

I lived in Venice for almost 2 years, and visit for a few months each year. My boyfriend has a boat, and we drive up to the sidewalk outside, call to the owner, and he brings out our gelato to us (sort of like a Venetian Dairy Queen!) The gelato is delicious and tastes even better because we eat it... More

We stopped by Gelateria lo Squero after an early dinner. The owner was really friendly and helpful; he explained all the flavours (and his process of making it - including where the ingredients like pistachios were sourced) and when we struggled to decide, he let us taste various flavours. In the end my girlfriend and I had a pistachio cone... More

It is hard to go wrong when choosing a little gelato shop in Italy. This little gelato shop was on our way from our Hotel to the Grand Canal and is was as good as I could have hoped to find.

The owner was a mannerless man who was least interested in serving us gelato - despite the fact that we were paying him for his wares, which surely is the point of his whole exercise. He was far more focussed on the footie going on on the tele in the shop. Half-heartedly scooped out our gelato (tiny scoops) and flung... More

Staying in Dorsoduro / Accademia

Neighbourhood Profile
Dorsoduro / Accademia
Artsy is the defining mood of this neighbourhood with street artists, students, painters, sculptors, restorers, curators, historians, collectors, heirs and heiresses rubbing elbows. Peggy Guggenheim's collection, now a museum, lures chic locals for evening art aperitifs. Traditionalists and visionaries cocoon in bohemian luxury. La Salute basilica buttresses the neighbourhood to the east. Gondolas bob in the morning light. The Accademia Bridge crosses the Grand Canal. A back street doubles as basketball court. Palaces house residents, or like Ca' Foscari a university, or a museum like Ca’ Rezzonico that attracts Venetians for concerts. Dorsoduro reveals its industrial roots too, in buildings converted to house university departments or exhibitions. Campo Santa Margherita bursts with youthful energy from local students. Foot traffic bustles to and from Piazzale Roma and Santa Lucia train station. Evening commuters pause for an aperitivo. Neighbours exchange confidants in a campo (square) on their way to market.
