If you want the Italian Fawlty Towers experience, I suggest you visit this restaurant. Our somewhat lacklustre reception and offhand acceptance of our order was the last interaction we had with our waiter who had to be prompted for delivery of our meal from bread for the table to our obviously forgotten side salad and even the ubiquitous parmesan cheese.... The food was awful the service just as bad and expensive too. The starter of soup was swimming in olive oil it was disgusting. The waiter didn't even bat an eyelid when he saw that it was untouched . I have never had white polenta either and it was bland and horrid, the whole meal was . Never again

Me and my wife had a recommendations to go here, and we asked to be served by the chef's recommendations. I had the best seafood taste and varieties in my life and the best service ever, the chef is Italian and is working in the food and beverage since decades. I must admit he is the best.

Arrived around 7:30pm. We took a while to choose what to eat (it was a 6 people group) and the waiter started to show some impatience. We heard him complaining a couple of times, he obviously didn't know we could understand. The carbonara was terrible, made with milk cream and not tasty. The steak and fries, only the fries were... Going to our first Trattoria, I had high expectations, unfortunately I was a little let down. So my husband and I had our first full Italian eatery experience. The full shebang. It involved antipasti, 1st course, mains course and dessert with wine. I had the Pinot Grigio (a local Venetian)and the hubby had Chianti. I have been told by my... More

Seated outside by helpful waiter. Service rather slow but food OK. But despite the branding on the wallet holding the bill and signs on the door, they decline Amex cards - from other customers as well as me. Suggested they would accept it 'next week' - not overly helpful in a classic short-stay location.

Really enjoyed a leisurely lunch with red wine. I had spaghetti Nero,my partner had tagliatelle with salmon and we shared some grilled vegetables. For desert I had tiramisu,my partner had gelato, the espresso was excellent. Service was friendly, prices were reasonable and portions generous.

Ended up going here more by accident than anything. Looks ok, from the outside however the food was terrible poorly presented and over priced. Im almost certain the seafood pasta was reheated, the lasagne seemed to lack meat and the garlic bread was well bread, not what i expected from my first meal in Italy . Its not all bad though... Staying in Cannaregio

Neighbourhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighbourhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
