This is a very good restaurant in top hotel in Venice so not cheap! As a result the service such be exceptional unfortunately it was not. We had the the seafood (water) set menu at 110 euro each. The starter of cod was very good. This was followed by king prawn and rice pasta again very good but my wife... More

Was looking forward to spending some time relaxing at this Terrazza in one of the most expensive hotels in Venice. the view is wonderful but prices are incredible: Euro 16 for a small bottle of beer. Tried the Tartar at Euro 38, very flavourless with some condiments on the side. Watch out for the super agressive pigeons that will attack... More

The view is spectacular but the attack from the sky and below make a leisurely drink or dinner impossible. Despite the best efforts of the wait staff, the pigeons are relentless. What is needed are some owls or hawks. Even the gulls, who drift in the area, have given up...and they have the Italian courtesy of leaving the diners alone.... More

I'm not really one to complain but my wife and I had a truly dreadful dinner this evening. I ordered the "Water" tasting menu with wine, my wife had the gluten free menu. Where to start! Almost all courses were cold or luke warm and nothing tasted particularly great. I had to keep reminding the waiter to bring the wine... More

We went there for just an aperitivo: they told us the terrace would close at 6:30 for dinner so we would have had only 30 mins: OK, understood, but maybe a bit of flexibility ... anyway, the view is amazing, stunning. So it is worth going just for that. Cocktails were good also. Clearly priced. What wasn't nice were the... More

Walking early through San Marco square on our last morning in Venice on our last day of the most amazing holiday in the UK and Italy from Australia, we wanted to have breakfast somewhere special where we could "drink in" all that Venice was. I had visited Hotel Danieli on a previous visit to Venice with girlfriends and had admired... More

This was by far the best food we had in Venice. We went for Sunday lunch but there was only a brunch menu at €120. However service and tax are included. A sparkling wine was also included and was topped up right through lunch. Brunch was a buffet and the food was beautifully presented and delicious. There was a large... More

We had the Earth tasting menu, without the wines. Delicious. The service was wonderful and the staff delightful. The maitre d' took the time to take our pictures out on the terrace. Lovely, lovely experience. So expensive!!!

So at €53 per person for a semi buffet breakfast, one expects alot. The service was ok. They were a bit snooty as its so very touristy and they want to turnover the tables quickly. The food was nice, not that amazing. They didn't offer omlettes to us even though it's included. You see others with omlettes then you realise!... More

Staying in Castello

Neighbourhood Profile
Castello
Castello is the largest of the six sestieri (districts), and the only one not facing onto the Grand Canal. More than half of Castello is situated within Arsenale, the naval base, which occupies over one-fifth the area of Venice. This gentrified maritime neighbourhood feels busy but casual. Castello’s side streets are laid back, with small boats lining canals criss-crossed by laundry. Semiannual exhibitions add a strong artsy current to the Arsenale area. Via Garibaldi in Castello, with its shops and bars, has one of Venice's rare straight and wide boulevards. When a large ship turns around the Lido to enter the Giudecca Canal, the startling sight creates an illusion that it will run aground right on Via Garibaldi! Families treasure Giardini near the island's tip, green with rare trees and grass, and Riva degli Schiavoni is a popular spot for Venetians to take a stroll to watch the sunset.
