Il Caravellino Bar. Part of the La Caravella Restaurant but open to non-diners (and non-residents of the hotel). A great ambience, classic music, brilliant entertaining staff and a wide selection of drinks. On first sight the drinks appear expensive - but the measures are no where near standard - so they actually are very reasonably priced. Highly recommend a visit... More

Actually a good restaurant very close to Piazza San Marco, a bit tight - many tables very close together, but with an excellent service and good, honest italian dishes.

I loved this bar and restaurant. We had a friendly welcome in the bar beforehand and such lovely service in the restaurant. I loved the old fashioned feel and ambiance to this place and the food was amazing. My favourite restaurant in Venice.

Very comfortable dining room with a cocktail bar annexe. Tables a little close together. Friendly and professional waiters. Short menu and whilst food was of generally good quality they were a tad expensive

We called in here for a meal late one evening after a visit to the Musica A Palazzo. I had the spider crab pasta which was delicious (but did have a little crab shell in). My wife had the duck ragu which was tasty but she wasn't terribly keen on the small chunks of duck - she suggested it was... More

Popped in here with some time to kill while waiting for our boat pick up on our final morning in Venice (sob). It was very early and they were preparing for the day but the bar person (female) still had time for a smile and served the best couple of lattes (ben calde!) and some croissants. Delicious. Lots to take... More

My wife and I spent the New Year's Eve 2016/2017 at La Caracalla in Venice. The New Year's Menu was an large variety of 7 different dishes together with Champagne rosé, excellent white and red wine. The whole staff was very attentive and friendly, all the guests tastefully and elegantly dressed. You must say that the whole evening program was... More

It was so cold then that we were looking for a place to have some hot drinks and take some rest. Actually La Caravella is a ristorante within a hotel but we were naturally accepted to just have some soft drinks and a piece of cake. I ordered a hot tea €1.4, and a creme custard cake. The staffs are... More

Description
La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
