This is the best meal and best service I've had in Venice. Attentive servers, beautiful (historic) atmosphere, excellent food. I wanted to have one special evening before leaving Venezia and this hit the spot!

We entered to the staff questioning whether we'd reserved (on a Monday night in February). The impression of a very chic restaurant was put forth, but it ended there. The prices were very high (granted, it's across the street from all of the luxury boutiques), but my food was dreadful (duck ragu and spaghetti), my husband's was better - two... More

Dear Mrs. Kate M, I’m very sorry to read this comment concerning your dinner at La Caravella. Even if you’ve appreciated this unique location, with its more than 50 years of history and its peculiar décor, I am surprised to know that one of our clients preferred courses, “bigoli” wholemeal pasta with duck ragu, didn’t meet your expectations. We use... More

We were here just after getting off at S. Marco's square after a gondola right and the cappuccino that we had was definitely one of the best we've had. Definitely liked the glass cabinet windows that you can write your name on with lipstick :)

We stayed for days in the area and each time we were looking at the restaurant it was full. It's always a good sign. We did not book a table but got the chance to have a dinner there. There are not a lot of choices but for us this is the guarantee of fresh and home made food. We... More

We ate here after the opera on our last night. The food was excellent and most definately our best eating experience in Venice. I would say this was finer dining than the average restuarant. Delicious food, Fabulous wine, and very very friendly staff. The ambiance was cozy and welcoming. Nice bar attached. Would definately visit again and infact on next... More

Reservation is needed. Simple and tasty menu, good service, good vine list. In my opinion, it is better to go at lunch. Presentation of dishes are good.

We had a very enjoyable dinner at La Caravella. The food was well prepared and highlighted Venetian dishes. We found each course to be perfectly proportioned and presented elegantly. Our waiter made an excellent wine recommendation for our meal and brought several additional "tastes" as well as Prosecco when we were seated. The waitstaff was professional and friendly throughout the... More

A nice intimate restaurant in a great location. The small bar is really nice, too. The steak was excellent, lobster risotto very good, and the scallop special was only OK. Service was attentive, but a little stiff and formal for my tastes. The prices were quite high.

Loved this place. Went with my gf, the food was sublime, the waiters were attentive and even correctly advised us on a good prosecco (which me n the gf both agreed was one of the best we'd ever had and we love our prosecco). Now for 2 x mains, 2 x desserts and a bottle of prosecco the bill came... More

Fine lunch meals in a cosy environment. Food is nicely prepared and tastes very nicely. No extravagancia and good food - prices reasonable in this part of town. Well visited by locals and visitors. The street location is one of the finest in town - all designer stores are in the immediate vicinity. Great location and nice company.

Description
La Caravella restaurant in Venice can be discovered immediately behind the newly-restored La Fenice theatre, just a few paces from the Piazza San Marco. Stepping inside, you will feel as if you have entered an antique sailing ship, with dark wood paneling, capstans and ropes and leaded windows. In summer, you may not step inside at all as La Caravella moves into a flower-filled courtyard complete with original wells, or the lighter courtyard dining room with typical Venetian ambience. The menu is typically Venetian too, with dishes like classic saor, marinated sardines with onions, pine kernels and raisins, fish soup, or oven orast turbot with potatoes and olives. In addition, the chef uses fresh seasonal ingredients to create trendier fare. The excellent wine list features both historical wine producers and smaller boutique vintners. Planning a party? La Caravella welcomes wedding receptions, private dinners, banquets, corporate entertaining, even coffee breaks. The garden seats up to 65 and one of the dining rooms up to 75.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
