Food OK but overpriced - service poor - very disappointing. Wine list intimidating and very very expensive - there were reasonable options but in the minority - the overall impression is that they really did not care as service charge added at 12%.

In fairness, we had already visited Florence and had the best meal in our lives at the Buca Mario. So this review may be a little jaded because they did not even come close to that experience. Wife wanted to eat here, apparently from reviews, so we ate here one evening right as they opened and were seated right away.... More

Our hotel concierge recommended and was the worst recommendation I have ever received. The service was OK, maybe good but not exceptional, but the food was below average. The seafood was over cooked, they charged €10 for 2 bread rolls and 2 mini bread sticks we didn't order. They charged €9, for fried potatoes, which was a plate of basic... More

Honestly I can't stop coming back. I'm living here for a while and it's a trek from where I live but I do it because it's authentic, welcoming , utterly Venetian, always entertaining and tie food is the ultimate . Eligio Pates is the heart and soul of this restaurant and he makes everyone feel that they matter and that... More

A bad recommendation by our hotel concierge (who clearly receives a back-hander in return) this place churns out very average, uninspired food for well above average prices. Even the bread was dull and tasteless and on the stale side - a good clue to the rest of the meal. There was nothing inspired about the cooking (we tried a variety... More

The concierge at our hotel recommend our extended family of 10 try Ristorante Do Forni and being our first night in Venice it sounded great. We entered the restaurant and were taken to the back and were squeezed into a very small area with little room to move. Looking at the cost of the items on the menu, we realised... More

Just by chance we had the fortune to stumble into this place. After having a really poor meal the first night we noticed this Michelin recommended (or so it said on the door) establishment and were lucky enough to be given a table straight away. The entrance was ominous as it looked empty and small. However this is just the... More

This was the best place that my friend and I ate in while in Venice. The first cool part was that the dining room looks like the Oriental Express train. It felt like we were truly in a fancy rail car. We were then treated like royalty by an extremely attentive waiter who showed us the wines and highlighted favorites... More

I was a bit skeptical in the beginning since it had a huge sign in front that it was recommended by a cruise line which meant touristy and commercial to me. The place was also quite tight with the table too near each other. For appetizer, we had the octopus carpaccio which was very delicious, tender and seasoned perfectly. For... More

I went to this very bad restaurant in Venice with 5 business colleagues tonight and at first it looked great . We were going to leave after looking at the prices on the menu but decided to stay and give it a go . 1 of our group ordered the veal but when it arrived it looked like road kill... More

Description
The restaurant " Do Forni " was founded in 1973 and is managing with passion by Mr.Eligio Paties.

" Do Forni " is distributed in two adjacent rooms: a rustic elegant room setting with the imagery of the ancient Venetian restaurant and the other one called Orient Express, whose luxurious furnishings reproduce accurately the setting and the soul of the famous wagon train that connects Venice to Istanbul and Paris.

The restaurant features traditional Venetian cuisine, mainly seafood, which offers fish and shellfish of the Adriatic according to recipes handed down by the Venice of the past centuries and embellished with seasonal vegetables and delicate sauces; but also the restaurant is known for a refined interpretation of the Venetian and Italian cooking that mixes the use of meats and local vegetables with the influence of international gastronomy.

Very large and qualified is also the restaurant's wine cellar, that offers the best labels from all the Italian regions, the most prestigious French wines and champagnes as well as a wide selection of international products.

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
