If you go to Venice you must visit this place for a coffee and cake/ ice cream. The service is impeccable and the decor is absolutely stunning. It's a very old establishment with oil paintings, Venetian mirrors, gold decor and it's all very traditional and wonderful. A must see stop for any visit to Marks Square.

Urgent Memo to Cafe Florian ! Have you ever married what Americans refer to as "high maintenance " ? Ahem. The lady of my house is known as The Real Miss Universe. I promised her a quick spin around Venice for Valentine's Day. Our gondola, which I purchased from Julius Caesar, sprang a leak in front of San Marco Square... More

Had liquid melted hot chocolate (to die for!) and delicious macaroons here. My husband had tiramisu and coffee, all served on a silver platter by a very courteous server. The setting is stunning: velvet seats, marble table tops, golden ceiling carvings, large mirrors and beautiful paintings make you feel like you're a member of Venetian aristocracy, if only for a... Very classy establishment and well worth the price for the experience. Beautiful surroundings but don't expect big portions or attentive service tend to be a bit offhand but for a one of well worth it.

Expensive, but worth every penny for the silver service, the ambiance and the pure luxury. Went during Carnivale so had the added bonus of many of the patrons sat in fabulous costumes!

*+* * Oldest cafe in Venice, tired but lovely interior * Min hot chocolate is a signature - recommend trying * Cozy inside even though very busy and full of selfie sticks * They accept credit cards which is handy *-* * Expect queues and the door concierge allocating the sitting. Be prepared for the waiting time * Tiramisu was... More

Very expensive for very small portions. The location is what sells it. Wouldn't go back there again.

We visited Caffe Florian twice during our stay in Venice. Yes it is pricey BUT it is beautiful. Service was very attentive. Food was delicious and tea, coffee etc also lovely. On our first visit my wife had the salmon quiche which unfortunately was not great (although she ate most of it) but we pointed this out to the waiter... More

Don't waste your time or money. Basically they're relying on that principal of being around so long people think you must be special. Go in sit down - be ignored for 15 minutes. - leave. Who knows what the food and drinks must be like because the service is so poor you'll never find out. But if baroque bordello chic... More

We had a capuccino, and a hot chocolate here. The price is in accordance with the place, extremely high. The capuccino was avarege, the hot chocolate was very god. In spite of all, it is a must while staying in Venice. Please read the historical background of the site as well :)

Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The most famous sestiere (district) in Venice has one of the world's most famous squares, St. Mark's (Piazza San Marco). Anchored on one end by the basilica, clustered around it are restaurants, museums, shops, orchestras playing in the square, pigeons, the grand pink Doge’s Palace (Palazzo Ducale), the soaring campanile bell tower, an astrological clock tower, plus gorgeous cafes and restaurants like Florian and Quadri. Piazza San Marco is beloved by Venetians themselves. They book a table anytime, which offers a buffer from the fray. This grand outdoor drawing room attracts Venetians for a stroll too, especially late in the afternoon when the hoards of daytrippers thin out. It's simply a grand place to meet.
