We thought it was impossible to have bad food in Italy but this was some of the worst food anywhere. We were leaving the Academie and on our way to the Uffizi and this was a convenient location. It would have been better to skip lunch. If only I had taken a moment to check Trip Advisor!

We had a one course lunch + beer here on our arrival in Florence. Whilst our food was fine I thought it was pricey. However we also purchased savouries and cakes to take away on several occasions and these were much better value

2 cappuccinos cost us 8 euro. Avoid this place. The tables were dirty, their chairs old, and service was poor. I've never paid 4 euro for 1 cappuccino, not even in Milan. I would understand if I was in Venice. The price doesn't match the service and experience I've received.

We have been consistently impressed by the fantastic value of breakfast/ coffee places here, even in the very touristy areas prices are very reasonable and the service courteous. Expect to pay about €1.20 for a pastry and €2.00 for a good coffee. Today we were charged double that for both pastries and coffee- a total of €16.80!! Apparently this was... More

We were there for its great location and being famous. The young personnel were joking to each other and ignoring the customers. It was not nice to see them talking italian, which we don't understand, and laughing, while we were asking something about the food and waiting for an answer. We do not recommend the oppen buffet. We didn't enjoy... More

I came back to this place after trying their apericena buffet and order from the menu. I ordered penne with Basil pesto, pine nuts and my friend had to order a pizza (with toscana sausage) cause they had no spaghetti for the bolognese. My penne were in facto fusilli, the pine nuts were lacking and my pasta was dry as... More

This is a typical tourist restaurant. The sandwiches and desserts are reasonably priced leading you to purchase your drinks without asking the cost. I selected a 14-ounce beer and my spouse had a coffee Americana. The waitress insisted I had the 8 Euro 20-ounce beer. The 14-ounce was 4 Euro. The coffee was 4 Euro. They also charge you 1 Euro... Staying in San Marco

Neighbourhood Profile
San Marco
The pleasant atmosphere of this residential area, a stone’s throw away from the Duomo of Florence, surprises everyone. A continuous flow of backpacking students provides the tranquil surroundings for the elderly residents who sit in Piazza San Marco to read the daily newspaper. Home to several universities, including the Academy of Fine Arts, San Marco is one of the most vibrant cultural centers in the city. A bridge connecting the modern cultural activity of Florence to its classic art, represented by the everlasting magnificence of the original David, resonates as a symbol of Florence and of Italy as a whole. Get lost in a Neoclassic world, a journey back in time through historic buildings like Spedale degli Innocenti (Hospital of the Innocents), San Marco church, Basilica della Santissima Annunziata, and natural jewels like the Botanical Gardens.
