I first came to Funiculi in 2013 and went repeatedly everyday for a week for either lunch or dinner. I came back after two years and I think the pizza was better than I even remembered. I was shocked to see a negative review for this pizza place. I come from New York- so I think my opinion on pizza... More

good food, service was fast and cordial, location is not the best if you are staying in the historical center, but it is not too far from the Lungarno. Pizza is better than most Florentine places, it is supposed to be Neapolitan pizza, but not quite as good. Overall, prices are decent, and there were many locals, which is always... More

We came here about 8.45 in the evening as it was local to the hotel and open on a Monday evening. I a coeliac and the manager assured us that they had gluten free pasta. They had run out of various dishes and the waitress came back several times with different stories as to what the chef thought was gluten... More

Not much atmosphere but excellent pizza. Their wood fired oven is constantly turning out a great pie and there is a very large variety to choose from.

Went here for a casual Saturday night pizza after a long day of touring fully expecting another tourist pizzeria. We were delighted to be comfortably seated next to an older Italian couple having dinner, a young italian couple helping their two small children deal with their pizzas, and a table of young Italians grabbing a bite before a night out... I hadn't visited the restaurant for a few years, and recently came back. We were quite a large group and we had appetizers and pizzas (and some took some cooked dishes). We all enjoyed the food, the pizza quality probably declined a bit over the years (it is supposed to be Naples style but the rim is not so fluffy... More

This was in walking distance from our hotel in Florence so we thought we would give it a try. We shared spaghetti with olive oil and chilli flakes and a gnocchi with pesto. We learned over time that pesto in this part of Italy is not the green pesto we normally have, but we still enjoyed it. Good service too.

Amazing authentic pizza. Whole pies. No cold pizza in the window. Made fresh in a brick oven. And the sauce is simple and so tasty. I only wish I would have found it sooner...

Just arrive from Venice and need some food. We found this pizzaria near our hotel and we really enjoy the food here. Price was okay and service fast. Looks clean all over, so we were happy against the standard and prices in Venice

Thank kmittag

Staying in Santa Maria Novella

Neighbourhood Profile
Santa Maria Novella
Santa Maria Novella train station welcomes the majority of the people arriving in Florence, which might explain the hectic pace. Commuters and tourists come across the constant hustle and bustle of the station before exiting, taking a few steps and stopping amazed in Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. It is impossible not to admire the the square, housing one of the most charming basilicas in Florence. The area has plenty of local spots to taste Tuscan specialties, but don’t stop in the main streets alone; the narrower side streets always ensure satisfaction. The huge Parco Delle Cascine provides a solution to the need for a green area as well as a historic welcome in the form of a bronze statue of King Vittorio Emanuele II riding a horse.
