This was one of the best cordon bleus I had in my life! Served together with the spaghetti this is a must while in Engelberg!

Nestled high up above Engelberg, this little hotel/restaurant was a gem. Beautiful patio overlooking the mountain with a very friendly waitstaff and delicious food. Had the veal cutlett, cheese fondue and apple fritters for dessert. All were extremely tasty - especially the fondue, which hit the spot after a day of hiking. Have to take some care getting up to... But the Fondue is really special. Unfortunately I could not get the secret for the receipe out of the owner who is also the cook. Atmosphere very friendly - just a little bit like Family. I will for sure go back - next time during daytime to enjoy the views.

After our previous experience of the apple fritters two years ago, this year we organised our walking such that we could be at Schwand for lunch and were not disappointed. Sat out on the terrace with a great views of the mountains on the other side of the valley and had very good salads. But the piece de resistance were... More

If u want the Swiss experience, this is it! It feels like u can almost reach out and touch the mountains. It was a warm day in Lucerne, so this was a welcome change. The menu de Jour was 23SF and included salad, soup and entree - more than 1 could eat, so better to share. The ride to the... More

My wife and I were celebrating our 28th wedding anniversary so we decided to take a road-trip up to Engelberg and after reading the reviews on Tripadvisor we picked the Schwand for our lunch spot. The building was pretty uninspirational looking from the outside but we decided to go in anyway. The decor is equally uninspirational and looks as if... More

We just popped in for coffee while out walking and couldn't resist a plate of their apple fritters with vanilla sauce, which were even better than the ones on the Apple Fritter Path above Grindelwald! Very friendly staff, despite our limited German. Lots of laughter and a general good feeling coming out of the kitchen. We left at 11.50 and... More
