After a family lunch at McDonalds, we decided have coffee at Heini. Nice place with very tasty food: salad-bar, cream soups, wide selection of bread and cookies, wonderful coffee. We took two excelente cappuccinos friendly delivered to the table. People was very helpful and were...able to speak English. Payment was easy. You´ll find others Heini around because what started as a café confiserie at the Löwenplatz in 1957 has become quite an institution in Lucerne.More

Their food isn’t all that and the customer service is really terrible. Why come in and get treat poorly, love everything about Switzerland but this place.

If your restaurant has a bizarre policy of not letting you drink a water bottle that you bought at the counter, not letting you eat a yogurt ( that you bought from them!!!) When you are also buying quiches, and coffees and pastries!!! It's ridiculous...but train your waitress to apologize for the inconveniences and explain your policy POLITELY, please! Our waitress was so rude because we had an unopened water bottle on the table ( that we bought from them) she rolled her eyes, tsked us and made us " hide it" under the table while we drank our coffees etc. If that wasn't bad enough she shamed a poor family nearby with three small children and made them go up and get a refund for their water bottles so the kids would not drink it at the table. They list a sale, our whole section felt disgusted watching this bullying. The mother was mortified . Explain your ridiculous policy at the time of purchase and cut families a break for goodness sake. I'll never go back there.More

We decided on a Saturday morning to have coffee at Heini after visiting the Lion Monument. Two cappuccinos (5.30SF each) were delivered to the table but no water in a glass as was the case for what appeared to be locals or non English speaking...customers. My partner asked for water and in a great hurry a bottle of water was opened before reaching the table. Our protests were dismissed. We then had no option but to pay a further 5.20SF for the water. We noted another English speaking couple experienced the same thing (same waitress). It left a bitter taste and a feeling of being ripped off.More

After visiting once again the Löwendenkmal I saw that at the nearby 'Heini' they had a nice salad buffet on offer. This is just what I felt like having for lunch on that summer day. There was a rich choice of items. After filling up...a plate one puts it onto a weightscale, then a sticker comes out, which has te be attached onto a paper. With all this one goes to any free table indoors or outdoors. Soon a waitress will show up to ask for anything to drink. I asked for a bubbly mineral water, so she brought me a glass bottle with 'Knutwiler', which advertises itself as the only mineralwater of Central Switzerland. Ten days later I passed again by Lucerne and this time I went to the 'Heini' at the Falkenplatz, where they also have a salad buffet, although in my eyes quite different to the one at the Löwenplatz. Otherwise it is all the same procedure. Different was the way they brought the mineral water: not in a bottle, but in a glass and with it came a tiny cup with lemon juice to be poured into the water. Quite a good idea. In the bill they called this a 'Schnetzwasser'. Staff was everywhere friendly and professional and payment easy. Both places were also good for people watching, when sitting outdoors. Walking around town I saw more 'Heini' branches, also one at the Bahnhofplatz and one at the Hertensteinstrasse. My wife and I stopped there for a late lunch and found the people be very friendly and helpful and were able to speak English. Food prices were pretty reasonable. We have two slices of a pizza / tort and a slice of cherry torte...for under 16 Swiss francs. Then we decided to order two bottled waters and the price for this was not quite so reasonable. The water was almost as much as the food. I still believe it's a pretty good value since Switzerland is so expensive. The food was really good. I would definitely recommend that you go their if you're a tourist in the area.More

Once you are out from Lion Monument this is the place to stop by and have Gelatos and coffee. We enjoyed them.
