My husband dined at this restaurant in 2010 and loved the smoked trout so much, he promised to take me here during our trip to Zurich. At the time he first tried it, it was summertime and the patio dining was open. He distinctly remembers...that. We've been walking around old town Zurich searching for this place. He remembers an alleyway and then the patio. I was of no help. He didn't remember the name of the restaurant so......we walked around and was getting hungrier by the minute. We just started to check out the printed menus outside each establishment. The husband disappeared in an alleyway while I checkout the menu up front. He came back and said this is the place all the while, I have decided this place would be worthy of our 6th wedding anniversary luncheon based on the menu. We went in and the place was deserted. An attendant greeted us and we asked if they were still open for late lunch. He said as long as we place an order by 1:30 p.m. coz the kitchen closes for a few hours. We didn't see this as an issue. We sat at a table next to the wall (with CH) and placed our order for the famous smoked trout. We began to tell our server of the story trying to go back to this place and it being our anniversary. He relayed it to their chef who still is making the same trout recipe that my husband tasted 9 years prior. They were so nice that they let us stay for however long we needed and wished us well. Our server also informed us that the wall we sat next to, was part of the original wall of town back when it was walled off to the public. Not only did we have a sumptuous lunch, we were literally touching a big piece of history (dating back 15 BC)! Talk about a very memorable wedding anniversary luncheon!More

Neumarkt was delightful. Suggested by our bartender Bill at Bar-Munster Quality Delivered. Recommend the meatball and fish of the day along with spinach, Rosti, & carrots.

Neumarkt is always a great idea - not only during wintertime with the cozy and sweet Christmas decorations but also in summer when you can have a delicious lunch or a romantic dinner in the backgarden (pergola). Their food is traditional but with a twist...and always prepared with a loving eye. Looking forward to my next dinner there (already booked our table 😉)More

This was a return visit for us, we managed to get a reservation on a busy Saturday night and we were not disappointed. The food is thoughtful, different and very very tasty. The staff are welcoming and knowledgeable - and they are happy to speak...English if you can't manage the local dialect. It's off the tourist route which means that you will be sharing your evening with locals rather than large tour groups, which is always a hazard in Zurich.More

The nice thing about Neumarkt is, well, everything. The ambiance is wonderful, the service impeccable, and the food imaginative and tasty. Not too pricey, not stuffy, and both cozy and comfortable. The service was one of the best experiences in handling our medium sized group,...and we were all united in our praise. Will come here again and again.More

The limited menu of quadi Swiss specialities - the meatballs were a large hamburger in a feta sauce, the veal Zurich style tasty. Salads and starters were excellent and four old friends sat out under the ivy on a hot hot night drinking wine, eating...and cataching up. The staff was helpful and didn't rush us, the ambiance outstanding.More

We came as part of large group for a company event. Service was very friendly, helpful and attentive. A spacious room in a house built in the 13th century. All in classical and traditional Zurich style - great! Food came in large portions: Salads, Zurich...Gschnaetzlets and special Tiramisu for a dessert - all tasted great. Is this a helpful review? Delightful experience, excellent food We have visited here a number of times over the last 4 years. We came across it inadvertently, wandering around from the Helmhaus where we were staying. It can be a good workout winding through back alleys (that are charming with...nice little shops) or you can go relatively straight back from the Rathaus tram stop. The restaurant has superb food, beautifully presented, but relatively expensive (as are most things in Switzerland). The fare is relatively less heavy than in many Zurich restaurants. It has happily become much more friendly to non-German speakers - they finally have an English menu (though you need to ask for it) - in the past it was somewhat trying to figure out the menu. The wait staff now speak excellent English in our experience. There is a limited wine list, though the Swiss wine we tried was excellent. Seating is limited, especially in winter, and it can be impossible to get a table without a reservation as we discovered. In the summer, they move outdoors to a large tiered back garden area - lovely and we were able to be seated with just a short wait despite no reservations. Side dishes are a la carte but worth it.More
